Nintendo is one of the oldest and prestigious video game publishers in the gaming industry. With numerous franchises under its belt and AAA quality games releasing year after year, Nintendo has managed to maintain its success for several decades. Now, after the release of a highly anticipated title, many Nintendo fans are calling for the release of a 2D collection from one of the studio's most popular series.

Following the recent release of Metroid Dread, the success of the Metroid series has become newly revitalized. With both old and new fans experiencing the first original, 2D Metroid game released since Metroid Fusion, many players have begun to feel a rekindled sense of appreciation for the series. One fan has even gone on to suggest an efficient way for new players to experience the earlier games in the series.

A Reddit user named schuey_08 wrote a post explaining just how much demand there currently is for Metroid as a result of Metroid Dread. Citing information from Twitter user Shinesparkers, not only does Metroid Dread top the Nintendo Switch e-Shop, but every Metroid game featured on both the Wii U e-Shop and 3DS eShop have shown up within the top ten highest selling games. This led schuey_08 to suggest the release of a 2D Metroid collection.

The sales figures certainly indicate a significant increase in Metroid's popularity. Thus, the demand for more Metroid content definitely exists. The true matter is whether or not Nintendo will release a 2D Metroid collection and if so, would there be any visual upgrades. It would be impressive to play a classic game like Super Metroid with the enhanced graphical capabilities of a game like Metroid Dread.

Although, truth be told, a collection of re-released 2D Metroid games isn't too far out of the realm of possibility. Considering that Nintendo recently released Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a collection of fan-favorite 3D Mario games, it seems somewhat likely that a similar collection could be released for Metroid. Plus, 2021 also marks the 35th anniversary of Metroid, so something like that could potentially occur.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Metroid going forward. While many fans have thoroughly enjoyed Metroid Dread, many are also wondering when Metroid Prime 4 is expected to release. After being announced at E3 2017, there has been little to no news regarding the development of the newest 3D Metroid game. With any luck, Nintendo will release new information regarding the game's development in the months to come.
