Debuting in Mario Tennis as Wario's doubles partner and eventually becoming a regular of spin-off series like Mario Kart and Mario Party, Waluigi serves as the rival to Luigi in much the same way that Wario is Mario's opposite. Often driven by jealousy and self-pity, Waluigi tends to feel like an outsider, a point exemplified by the fact his first appearance revolved around him not receiving an invite to a tennis tournament.

Following years of banishment to the fringes, Waluigi's failure to make the cut for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate saw the character become a beacon for the ignored and downtrodden. Waluigi might not be the hero Nintendo wants, but he is the hero the internet loves. Here are 10 Waluigi memes likely to make someone laugh, cry, or both.

10 Infinity Wah

A majestic work of art advertising a film that will never exist out of fear that it would make too much money at the box office, "Avengers: Infinity Wah" replaces all of Marvel's superheroes with Waluigi. He is simply that versatile.

Along with this mock poster that showcases Waluigi's greatness for all to see, there is also CK Productions' Super Smash Bros. Infinity Wah YouTube series that, naturally, revolves around the forgotten mascot.

9 A Waluigi For Every Platform

Like many of Nintendo's mascots, Waluigi is quite a straightforward character with only a few fixed traits: He will do anything to win, he cannot be trusted, and he is pretty good at sports. Along with his innate talent for ridiculous facial expressions, Waluigi's uncomplicated personality makes him easy to adopt for various situations and rather relatable.

Envy is something everyone has experienced. Consequently, Nintendo's character is a perfect mascot for any social media platform out there because everyone has a bit of Waluigi in them.

8 A Waluigi Warning

Driven to be the best and angered by the perception that others are more fortunate than him, Waluigi often demonstrates a "me versus the world" mentality. He is constantly looking to score an advantage over his opponents, be it by obtaining the Lucien racket in Mario Tennis Aces or the Music Keys in Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix.

Would Waluigi stab someone as a warning? Well, he might try, although his track record suggests the attempt may backfire.

7 Nintendo's Squidward

Rewatching childhood favorite shows as an adult can change someone's perception of certain characters. SpongeBob SquarePants' Squidward Tentacles is a prime example, as he goes from a grumpy octopus constantly attempting to rain on SpongeBob's parade to a tired adult who simply wants to do his job in peace.

Waluigi does not quite have the depth of content to match Squidward, but his frustration at always being left out is perfectly understandable.

6 Superhero

Waluigi is just a rollercoaster of emotions, especially in recent years when Nintendo has opted to diminish his vindictive nature in favor of his low self-esteem and ego. Similar to Wario and, to a lesser extent, Luigi, Waluigi seems to have an over-the-top facial expression for every situation, especially in the Mario Tennis games.

This meme combines the many faces of Waluigi with the lyrics of Kyba Watson's "Superhero." It is a match made in Nintendo heaven.

5 Waluigi Plays To Win

While fans are still waiting for the day when Waluigi graces a Super Smash Brosstage, the character has been knocking it out of the park for years when it comes to Mario's sports games. Even if there are usually better and more immediately accessible characters, Waluigi tends to be among the best in any given title, assuming a player is willing to put in the effort.

This meme splendidly points out Waluigi's impressive resume as a top athlete, although Masahiro Sakurai's quote is somewhat weird since the Super Smash Bros. director does not have anything to do with the Mario sports games.

4 Fan Favorite

Waluigi's failure to make the cut for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate caused quite a fervor among fans of the character, at least during the first few months following the roster's reveal. For the most part, Nintendo has avoided addressing the mascot's absence from the crossover fighting game, and it seems unlikely that he will be included anytime soon.

Now, in all fairness, Piranha Plant has been a fixture of the Mario franchise since 1985's Super Mario Bros. In some ways, the plant is a bigger rival of the brothers than Waluigi.

3 Rejection Only Makes Waluigi Grow Stronger

Waluigi was designed to be an outsider. If he were to be invited to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it could hurt the one thing that defines him the most as a mascot: His status as an afterthought.

Waluigi's personality revolves around feelings of inadequacy and his existence is fueled by rejection, two traits that would be far less sympathetic if he was part of the "popular" crowd. An invite to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would change Waluigi forever.

2 Waluigi's Heart

Posted by Shädman.

Shädman tries to explain Waluigi's absence from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate through a sweet comic. In this alternate reality, Waluigi did receive an invite but decided to give his to Princess Daisy, who failed to make the cut. It is cute and masterfully drawn.

It also takes some liberties with Waluigi's personality, presenting him as a far more selfless character than any of the games. Also, Princess Daisy deserves to be in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate just as much as Waluigi.

1 The Rise Of Walter

Posted by Shen Comix.

Over the years, Waluigi's hatred for Luigi has steadily diminished. Nowadays, the two just tend to have a friendly rivalry, even if the former takes it more seriously than the latter. Waluigi was never his own person. He was created because Wario needed a partner and molded after a character who took a very long time to establish himself as something other than "green Mario."

Who is Waluigi without the anger, self-pity, and frustration? Can he stand alone without Wario or Luigi? This meme answers these questions.
