PAX Online began today with a prominent presentation by Gearbox Software, which revealed new DLC coming to Borderlands 3 in 2020 as well as a tabletop board game based on the Borderlands 2 DLC Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep. The digital-only event is set to last through September 20, and this morning news site Nintendo Life announced it will be contributing to PAX Online with an indie game showcase.

The Nintendo Life Indie Spotlight will begin at 2:15 p.m. PT on Thursday, September 17, and last about 30 minutes. It will focus on games releasing on the Nintendo Switch, including updates on unspecified titles that have been confirmed for the eShop and "a whole host of previously unannounced" games, according to the announcement post written by Nlife Media Editorial Director Damien McFerran.

While there are no real teasers given as to what Switch players can expect updates on, the spotlight will be streaming on PAX's Twitch account, Nintendo Life's YouTube channel, and broadcast on the news site alongside a liveblog. It's one of many events planned over the next week or so, including a PAX Online Sony panel scheduled for September 18.

There have been a number of digital indie game showcases throughout 2020 as live events like E3 have been cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, including ones hosted by Nintendo itself. The most recent Nintendo Indie World Showcase came in August, presenting titles like Spiritfarer, Takeshi & Hiroshi, A Short Hike, and a co-op expansion for Untitled Goose Game. Nintendo has also held smaller digital Directs for Super Mario's 35th anniversary and to present games by major third-party developers like Atlus.

A more general event focused on independent games was the three-day Guerrilla Collective that showed titles like DoubleMoose Games' Just Die Already in June. Digital storefront Humble Bundle also begun its own game showcase presentation events called The Humble Brag this year, based on the template set by Nintendo Directs.

Because of the ongoing pandemic, Gamescom also created a virtual showcase for its Indie Arena Booth. With Nintendo Life's showcase restricted to titles releasing on Switch, it will be interesting to see what gets spotlighted as part of PAX Online. The site is run by Nlife Media, a publishing company that also oversees Push Square, focused on Sony-related news; and Pure Xbox, focused on Microsoft-related news.

The Nintendo Life Indie Spotlight will take place September 17, 2o2o at 2:15 p.m. PT
