Nintendo Inviting 3,000 Fans to Watch ‘Super Smash Bros.’ Tournament

By | 2 years ago

There will be plenty of new game announcements and companies vying for the attention of consumers during this year’s E3, and Nintendo is no different. The company has confirmed that it’ll once again be doing a digital showcase featuring its software announcements, but it’ll also be providing fans the opportunity to watch a Super Smash Bros. tournament featuring the upcoming fighting game on Wii U.

This revelation brought a wave of excitement to the competitive Smash community, and Nintendo has just now followed up with details regarding how fans can watch the action unfold live in Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre. Legions of fans have now been given specifics pertaining to how they can witness championship-calibre battles unfold live, but it sounds as if they’ll be waiting in line for quite some time in order to secure their seats.

According to the official press release, wristbands to attend the event will first be given out beginning at 9:30 a.m. on June 10 at the NOKIA Plaza at L.A. LIVE, 777 Chick Hearn Court to the first 3,000 fans in attendance. It may also be a good idea to dress as a character from the new Super Smash Bros. games, because anyone who does will receive priority seating in the front row. With that in mind, it’d probably be a little risky to dress as a combatant that’s not already confirmed, so it’s best to leave outfits of third-party dream additions and unannounced newcomers at home — nobody wants to be left out of the front row fun dressed as Goku from Dragon Ball Z.

It’s also important to note that the Big N doesn’t want anyone lining up for a wristband prior to Tuesday morning, so there’s no need to pack a tent. After fans have received their wristbands bearing the Nintendo seal of approval, they are then free to wander around until the doors for the event burst open at 2:30 p.m.. Unfortunately, those that waited all morning in line won’t be guaranteed priority seating if they leave and then return, so those eager for a good seat should show up a little early.

Once costume-wearing enthusiasts and Smash aficionados alike have settled into their seats, the Super Smash Bros. Invitational will officially kick off at 4 p.m. PST. Of course, those that don’t find themselves in California are also able to watch the entire tournament through both E3 and Nintendo’s official Twitch channels.

Nintendo has still yet to unveil that participants it has invited to the tournament, but a list of names is likely to hit soon — especially with the event less than a month away. For now, gamers that were planning on making the trek to score seats to this event can now officially begin doing so, and those that plan on watching from home? Well, feel free to still dress up.

Will you be attending the Invitational or will you opt for the live stream? Which Smash pros do you think Ninty will invite to participate?

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS is scheduled to hit store shelves later this Summer, while the Wii U version will arrive in Winter 2014.
