Nintendo's eShop usually has a sale or two always happening, but with The Game Awards happening soon, another series of discounts joins the frey. Nintendo's Game Awards eShop sale is officially live, offering discounts on some of this year's largest games and those affiliated with them.

It has a been point for many years now that during The Game Awards' season, most video game publishers offer some sort of promotion that marks down many of the games in discussion. For instance, Xbox's Game Awards sale is already up, with games like Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and Call of Duty: Vanguard receiving some nice price drops considering how recently they released.

As the Switch does not receive many of the same third-party developed games that Xbox, PlayStation, and PC do, naturally the discount list of games will be a bit smaller compared to those companies. That is not to say, though, that the Nintendo eShop sale is not worth perusing.

From now until December 15, Switch owners can get up to 30% off on select games in thanks to Nintendo's Game Awards sale. Although there are only 19 games that are included in this promotion, they are a quality group of titles from this year and prior. One of this year's most popular Switch-exclusive games, Monster Hunter Rise, is down 25% from $59.99 to $44.99. Fans looking to play Breath of the Wild before the Zelda sequel is potentially shown at The Game Awards can get it for $41.99, as well as the remake of Link's Awakening for the same price.

While many of the Nintendo games being nominated at The Game Awards are not present in the sale, a handful of this year's best indie games have been discounted. For starters, Spelunky 2 is 20% off, down to $15.99 from $19.99, an infinitely replayable title that is perfect for on-the-go gaming. There is also the Cloud Version of The Forgotten City, a narrative-driven, time-loop game set in ancient Rome that started as a mod for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and is nominated for Best Debut Indie at The Game Awards. Lastly is Games for Impact nominee No Longer Home, a semi-autobiographical game about two roommates coming to terms with their futures.

Gamers expecting to see more Nintendo first-party games like Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Metroid Dread, or Mario Party: Superstars are bound to be a little frustrated by this sale. However, it is very rare for Nintendo to discount its most recent releases, and may honestly be a surprise for some to even see Link's Awakening in this sale. It will be some time before the aforementioned titles from 2021 receive discounts as that's how Nintendo has always been with its eShop sales. Nonetheless, the The Game Awards selection by Nintendo is pretty fair by its standards.
