It's no secret that while the 3DS is coming on strong, both the Wii and the DS are headed for the sunset. If there were any lingering doubts, Nintendo's release schedule for the first quarter of 2012 should put them to rest.
Highlighted by Kid Icarus: Uprising, Resident Evil: Uprising, and Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater, the 3DS lineup for the first three months of next year is packed with anticipated games. The Wii, meanwhile, gets Rhythm Heaven Fever, Mario Party 9, and PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond.
In addition to traditional retail releases, Nintendo is promoting its lineup of downloadable games, and the GameStop only US release of the Circle Pad Pro, which will land February 7 and cost a reasonable $19.99. Both Resident Evil: Revelations and Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater will support the peripheral. Meanwhile, a North American release date for Monster Hunter 3G is no where in sight.

Given the huge sales Wii is racking up this holiday season, it's more than a little disappointing that Nintendo has so few games slated for the system. Really, outside the 3DS and eShop games, there isn't much to get excited about. Then again, with Wii U expected to be fully unveiled at E3 2012, and 3DS quickly overtaking DS, that is probably to be expected.
