Nintendo Switch fans are anxiously awaiting the first Nintendo Direct of 2019. Both 2017 and 2018 started with January Connects, so it's understandable that Switch owners might be getting a bit anxious now that February 2019 is started and Nintendo's still quiet. That patience may be on the verge of being rewarded, however, as a reliable rumormonger has hinted that the next Nintendo Direct could be shown as soon as next week, on February 13.

Users of the video game forum ResetEra, going all the way back to when the community was at NeoGaf, may recall the name king zell. kind zell is a perennial hint dropper and has historically been very reliable. Suffice to say, when king zell drops in on ResetEra's "Nintendo Direct Speculation" thread to say, "13 is your lucky number..... and am out," then it deserves everyone's attention.

The scope of the Nintendo Direct remains nebulous, as zell is unable to provide further context beyond speculation. The implication appears to be that it'll be your typical variety Nintendo Direct, covering upcoming games for the Nintendo Switch as well as dropping a few release date and new game announcements. Considering the Nintendo Switch's 2019 is kind of a blank slate currently, Nintendo would be remiss not to give fans a schedule to look forward to for the coming months.

pokemon let's go red

One subject of particular interest is whether or not Nintendo will be unveiling the main series Pokemon title tentatively planned for release in late 2019. Considering Nintendo's recent shaky financial reporting, wherein executives acknowledged that the Nintendo Switch didn't reach the 20 million units sold goal that it had previously said it'd target, a big marketing boost right now could be very beneficial. Especially so if all Nintendo will be showing off in the meantime is Yoshi and Luigi's Mansion.

That said, anything is possible. Maybe Nintendo will have a secret major announcement to make. Maybe there won't be a Nintendo Direct at all. This is just a rumor, after all, plus things could always change. To reiterate, though, king zell is a reliable source for rumors. ResetEra also has a policy regarding verifying sources before allowing them to be posted on the board (and ban users that falsify rumors). More information will be coming soon, or as zell says, "Good things come to those who wait."
