The Holiday season is firmly upon us, which means people have quite a few big decisions in the following days. As the season of giving reaches a crescendo, there will be plenty of video game console purchases, and one company that’s hoping for some significant sales is none other than Nintendo. The beloved console manufacturer has not been having much luck with the Wii U, and it’s hoping to turn things around with some big-name exclusives.
Despite having a handful of solid titles currently available for the platform, the Big N plans on hyping the lineup it has in store for early 2014. In a new Nintendo Direct scheduled for 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET on December 18th, 2013, Ninty will be detailing games for the Wii U and 3DS that are currently scheduled to launch at some point in Spring 2014, and there are a number of previously announced culprits that are likely to get concrete launch details.
A safe bet regarding the games that’ll be present within the online showcase include Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Mario Golf: World Tour for the Nintendo 3DS, but when it comes down to Wii U games it’s hard to be certain. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is hitting retailers in February, which effectively puts it out of the Spring 2014 window, but it wouldn’t be obscene to suggest that it will make an appearance. Another game that has been rumored to launch in Spring is Mario Kart 8, and odds are it’ll be prominently on display during the event.
Another good bet would be the confirmation of a new character in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, but it’s unlikely that the games will be launching in Spring 2014 — especially considering that Nintendo made a big deal about dismissing an alleged report that the Wii U version would be launching within that window. Still, Nintendo Direct has become a place for Smash-related announcements as of late, and tomorrow’s presentation likely won’t stray too far from that trend.
