Ever since its announcement earlier this year, gamers have been clamoring for the Nintendo 3DS. We all knew it would see a release by the end of March 2011, but the question has always been 'When?' Now, thanks to a tweet from Japanese Twitter user 'nocchisan', it seems that we'll finally be able to experience portable 3D gaming on November 20, 2010.
It's important to remember this is just a rumor. However, when everything is taken into consideration, it seems pretty likely. After all, we've had rumors of an October release and a Christmas release... all we really know for sure is that Nintendo will formally announce the release date on September 29.
Curiously enough, after posting his tweet of revelation, 'nocchisan''s account was mysteriously deleted, and the tweet went with him. Luckily for you, we have the tweet below:
I'll admit to not being able to read Japanese, but the helpful folks over at Andriasang have translated it for us. According to them, the writer is an employee of the peripheral maker 'Keys Factory', and states that eleven 'Keys Factory' products will be available to purchase alongside the 3DS at launch, on November 20th.
Now, there are two possible ways to approach this piece of news. Both of which are equally valid, and really depend on your personal preference. You can either believe this is definitely true -- after all, we know it's coming soon, and why else would the account be deleted? -- or definitely false -- they haven't even announced a date yet, so how would this guy know?
Personally, I'm inclined to believe the former. November 20 sounds like a perfect date for the 3DS release; it's right before Thanksgiving on November 25, and leaves plenty of time for hype to build up in the run up to Christmas. Normally I'd be wary of rumors coming from suspicious tweet accounts, but why else would the account be deleted? A far simpler way of removing the information would be to remove the tweet -- I think somebody, somewhere, got very angry and demanded the account be deleted.
Assuming this is the correct date, now the only mystery left is the price. I'm still holding out hope for $220 -- $30 less than Michael Pachter's prediction of $250. But, when it comes to Nintendo, you never know.
