It was recently announced that Nintendo would no longer be accepting credit card purchases on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShop in Japan starting early next year. With Nintendo also shutting down those eShops in Latin American countries last year, it seems that their permanent closure is just over the horizon. Many Nintendo 3DS players have voiced their disappointment with the possibility of the handheld's eShop getting shut down, especially as physical games for the 3DS have gotten increasingly difficult to come by in many cases.

The news comes just months after the Nintendo 3DS celebrated its 10 year birthday. Over those 10 years, the 3DS has gotten some great games on it, with some especially strong exclusives to boot. This leaves a lot of great games on the handheld that many players may have difficulty getting once the eShop is fully closed down. So, here are the games that every 3DS player should make sure to buy before the eShop closes down for good.

Yo-Kai Watch 3

Yo-Kai Watch 3 is one of the best Pokemon clones out there, but it can be incredibly difficult to find physical copies of it anywhere. The game sees players trying to capture Yo-Kai, Japanese spirits that are everywhere in the game's world. The game features over 600 unique Yo-Kai for players to battle, capture, and train with as well as two different storylines for them to playthrough. Because of how rare physical versions of the game are, any interested gamers should pick up a digital copy before the shop closes. If they do not, they may have extreme difficulty getting their hands on one. To sweeten the pot, the digital version of the game even includes a code for players to get two exclusive Yo-Kai.

Kirby: Planet Robobot

Kirby was first introduced to the games industry 30 years ago, but one of the series' most standout entries is Kirby: Planet Robobot. Players can team up with up to three friends to fight back against a robot invasion that threatens to mechanize Kirby's entire world. To do so, Kirby equips the new Robobot Armor that is capable of analyzing enemies to activate different modes and copy enemies' moves. Kirby can still copy enemies by inhaling them the old fashioned way, but the Robobot Armor gives Kirby some additional abilities to add into the mix.

The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes is one of the stranger spin-offs in The Legends of Zelda, but it offers a unique take on the game's iconic top-down perspective gameplay that allows players to team up. To complicate things, players share their hearts, so they have to coordinate well together otherwise one mistake could spell disaster for the whole team. The game also features the ability for players to unlock and equip new gear to change their appearance and abilities. Fans have called for The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes to come to Switch, but in case it doesn't, fans of the series may want to pick it up before the eShop closes down and the game disappears.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story was one of the highest rated DS titles, and the 3DS version bundles in the excellent Bowser Jr.'s Journey to make the package an even better deal. The game is pretty different from most Mario titles, featuring turn-based battles that allow players to play as both Mario and Luigi as well as Bowser himself. The new Bowser Jr.'s Journey also features an entirely new mode that sees Bowser Jr. amassing teams of different units to face off against other armies in a new type of combat that further mixes up the formula.

Pokemon Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon

Pokemon Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon is the most complete way for players to experience the Alola region in Pokemon. Not only does it feature over 400 Pokemon and the Z-moves feature, but it also expands on the story of the original game to give even more for players to explore and experience across the region and the Ultra Wormholes. Of course, there are some differences between Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon, so completionist Pokemon players may want to pick up both before the eShop closes and the price of physical copies rises.

Shovel Knight

Shovel Knight grew from a humble kickstarter to a massive indie darling, and 3DS players who want to take the platformer with them wherever they go will have to pick it up before the eShop closes, as it is a digital exclusive on the handheld. The 3DS edition also includes the four expansions released for Shovel Knight, which bring new campaigns, playable characters, and challenge modes. For platformer fans on 3DSShovel Knight is a must-get, especially with all of the value packed in with the included expansions.
