Nintendo's Iwata Talks 3DS Demos and 'Kid Icarus: Uprising' Multiplayer

Nintendo 3DS Demos Kid Icarus Multiplayer

During a live broadcast to Japanese gamers Nintendo President Satoru Iwata talked about all of the exciting new content that the company has in the pipeline for gamers in the near future. While many of his reveals are only currently set for Japanese release, there were still a few global pieces of news announced.

First and foremost Iwata revealed that a couple 3DS games would be getting demos available today on the eShop.  Those game demos -- Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D, Rhythm Thief & The Emperor's Theater, New Love Plus, and Resident Evil: Revelations -- are currently only available in Japan, but one has to assume this is the first phase of a new marketing plan for Nintendo.

Iwata also talked a little bit about the multiplayer for the 3DS’ most exciting new title, Kid Icarus: Uprising. As expected Uprising will be supporting local and online multiplayer for up to six players (3-on-3), and will also feature a ‘Battle Royale’ type mode where it’s every player for themselves. In the multiplayer, players will be picking up various items and weapons that are scattered across the battleground a la Mario Kart.

Most of the games that were shown were also followed by a Japanese release date, but some of those release dates were also global. A big highlight for the faux press conference was a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3D, but unfortunately no release date was given for the game.

The press conference, on the whole, was filled with a ton of announcements for the Nintendo 3DS, from Fire Emblem to Ace Combat, but, as expected, was devoid of anything Wii U. Even though Nintendo is set to release a new console some time this year, they are going to be providing a ton of support for their revolutionary handheld as well.

What games are you excited to see release for the Nintendo 3DS next year? Will you be using Kid Icarus: Uprising’s online or local multiplayer?

Kid Icarus: Uprising releases March 23, 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS.
