Earlier this week Square Enix's NieR: Automata, an action-RPG collaboration with Platinum Games, celebrated its fourth annivesary since its initial Japanese release in 2017. The game was a surprise hit, selling over 5 million copies and introducing an entire new generation of fans to the work of oddball Japanese game designer Yoko Taro and his NieR and Drakengard series. Now, Square Enix is preparing to reintroduce fans to the world of NieR with NieR: Replicant ver.1.22474487139..., a remaster of the original game, and has released a new video revealing the game's voice cast.

NieR originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in April 2010. The version originally released was based on the Japanese Xbox 360 version of the game called NieR: Gestalt, featured an older male protagonist protecting a girl called Yonah, his daughter. In Japan, the game had also released on PlayStation 3 on the same day, however this version was known as NieR: Replicant and featured a younger male protagonist protecting Yonah, who was his sister.

Given that this version never released outside of Japan, this is the version that Square Enix and Toylogic has based this remaster off of, and has now revealed the game's voice cast. In this remaster, the Adult Protagonist will be portrayed by Ray Chase (Final Fantasy 15) while the Young Protagonist will be portrayed by Zach Aguilar (Fire Emblem: Three Houses) Returning actors include Laura Bailey (The Last of Us Part 2) as Kaine, Liam O'Brien (Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor) as Grimoire Weiss, Julie Ann Taylor (Danganronpa) as Emil, and Eden Riegel (Monster Hunter: World) as Devola/Popola.

Fans will notice that many of the cast are returning from the original game and NieR: Automata, with the voice actors noting in the original video that it is their first time returning to the roles in almost 10 years. Square Enix seems to have done a perfect job of bringing each of the game's voice cast back from the original PS3 and Xbox 360 release.

NieR: Replicant ver.1.22474487139... will release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 23rd 2021.
