NieR Replicant follows a story full of emotional highs and lows. But like any RPG, it throws plenty of side quests at the player for the sake of levity and character progression. Early on in NieR Replicant, the player may be tasked with tracking down chicken eggs around the village as part of a whimsical little side quest. The location of the elusive chicken egg isn't exactly spelled out, so this guide will put readers on the right path.

The Lost Eggs is a quest that players should definitely make time to complete. It's a rather tame quest to help ease players into the weird and whacky Yoko Taro world. In addition to rewarding the player with a Health Salve that will surely come in handy in a pinch, it also provides an opportunity to explore and become familiar with the village. The quest is received from the Item Shopkeeper, who has a dire need for chicken eggs. He doesn't know where the chickens hide their eggs but advises the player to ask around town for advice. Doing so will introduce fans to the personality of the village and its denizens.

Speaking to a child wandering the plaza near the Item Shopkeeper will yield some advice on where to find chicken eggs. The child will say, "I saw one hidden in the shadows once!" A villager in the fields near the north edge of town will add, "The chickens in this village like to lay their eggs in high places for some reason." Armed with this knowledge, the game's new protagonist will mutter aloud, "Maybe we should check out the fountain by the library."

Nier's quests can get repetitive

The fountain in question is surrounded by some brick pillars. It's in the shadow of one of these pillars that the precious chicken egg can be found. An orange arrow marker will appear on-screen when the player wanders nearby, making it easy to tell exactly where to press the confirmation button and gather the item.

With the quest item in hand, the player just needs to return to the Item Shopkeeper. After a short dialogue, the mission will be complete and a Health Salve will be added to the inventory. Healing items such as this will be necessary for any upcoming dungeons or dangerous encounters. Prudent individuals will always take an opportunity to stock up on these kinds of essentials, especially when playing the game on higher difficulties.

Players making their way through this remake of the 11-year-old classic for the first time will find that they have many more optional quests to complete. Those who get lost in the wonder and whimsy of NieR Replicant can discover a whole universe that shares its principles. As the NieR name grows and creeps into other media such as the Final Fantasy 14 MMO, it goes to show that it's a great time to be a fan.
