From very early on in NieR Replicant, it's obvious that words are an important theme of the game. The hero is joined by a sentient tome on his quest to collect Sealed Verses and combat a curse known as the Black Scrawl. Through the power of Grimoire Weiss, words become an important gameplay feature as well. Throughout NieR Replicant, players will collect special Words that can be applied to weapons, magic, and martial arts to enhance their effects. There are well over 100 Words to collect, and this guide will make it more possible to do so.

Hunters of achievements and trophies will only need to grab 50% of the game's Words for the "Wordsmith" achievement. Putting accolades aside, prudent players will want to seek out Words simply because some of them are downright powerful.

To put Words to use, a player must navigate to the Grimoire Weiss menu and the Word Edit tab. Every weapon, spell, and martial art has two Word slots. Power users may want to mix and match their Word loadouts themselves, but most of the time the "Equip best Words" option will more than suffice.

Hardcore fans will likely slay countless Shades and find many Words naturally on the quest to make their character as powerful as possible. New Words are obtained randomly by defeating Shades. With a large catalogue of Words, players will be prepared for any encounter. In the early portions of the game, Words may seem like an unnecessary trifle that aren't worth considering. However, players challenging themselves on a harder difficulty will be grateful for any stat boost. And as for those seeking out all of NieR Replicant's endings, the benefits of powerful Words will become apparent as character and enemy attributes go higher and higher.
