Nier is an action game that appears to have been influenced by Devil May Cry and Bayonetta. Developed by Cavia, the creators of Bullet Witch and Sega Bass Fishing, and published by Square Enix, Nier looks to be a potential sleeper hit.

Here's the new Nier launch trailer:

I've got to admit, without doing some research you will have no idea what's going on in this new Nier trailer. There's an angry man yelling, and then he's fighting giant monsters using Bayonetta-esque demon powers, and he's got a bit of a sense of humor to go with his surly disposition. I'll try and help clear things up a little bit: The angry man is named Nier, of course, and he is definitely on a mission to save his daughter. His daughter was the one with the black writing growing on her arm, which is a symptom of the deadly Black Scrawl that she's contracted.

The book he has floating around him is an odd companion Nier acquires early in his journey, and it allows him to cast the dark magic you see in the trailer. From there on you're on your own. I suppose we can assume it's your typical protagonist wading through hell and high water to save someone he loves. I'll even bet Nier has some sort of moral dilemma somewhere in there.

Look like something you'd be interested in, Ranters?

Nier releases in Europe on April 23, and then in North America on April 27th.
