Nicolas Cage was asked about a potential appearance on the hit Star Wars series The Mandalorian. In response, he shut down the idea almost as fast as the question was asked.Cage is an actor’s actor and an all-around giver in entertainment, never putting less than 100% of himself on display for audiences. That’s why many Star Wars fans who saw Cage and Pedro Pascal paired in The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent wanted him to pop up in The Mandalorian. But Cage says he’s a Trekkie all the way.Related: Renfield Trailer: Nicolas Cage Becomes Dracula In New Horror ComedyPedro Pascal may have been jonesing for Cage to appear in his Star Wars series for Disney Plus, The Mandalorian, but Cage isn’t looking to strap on a blaster and a jetpack any time soon since his heart lies with another sci-fi universe. When asked about working with his Unbearable Weight co-star again, suiting up and kicking some pulp space butt in pursuit of bounties and playing with Grogu, Cage shut down the idea fast. First, he says, there have been no talks. Secondly, he cuts to the heart of the issue, telling Yahoo Entertainment correspondent Kevin Polowy, “I’m not really down. I’m a Trekkie, man. I’m on the Star Trek, I’m on the Enterprise. That’s where I roll.”

His interviewer was surprised that he’d shut down the idea of popping up in the ever-expanding Star Wars universe, saying that he didn’t know about Cage's Trekkie credentials. Cage praised both William Shatner and Chris Pine, who played Captain James. T Kirk, the Enterprise's captain, praised the political and sociological aspects of the franchise and then discussed his view on science fiction. “To me what science fiction is really about, and why it’s such an important genre, is that is where you can really say whatever you want, however you feel, you put it on a different planet, you put it in a different time or in the future, and you can," Cage said, noting the genre’s malleability and ability to talk about things using open allegory, and that like authors like Orwell, Star Trek embraced that nature.

It’s the type of thing that should get another segment of sci-fi nerds happy, with a wish that Cage himself would embrace if given the opportunity. Until then, Cage fans can watch him in The Old Way. The film stars Cage as a retired gunslinger who is called back into the game after his wife is killed by a former rival.

The Mandalorian season 3 premieres on March 1, 2023, on Disney Plus.
