Considering the success of the Super Smash Bros. franchise, it's no surprise that other companies have attempted to copy the formula for their own franchises. This ranges from smaller-scale projects like Brawlhalla to big budget games like PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. And now the latest company to throw its hat in the Super Smash Bros. ring is none other than Nickelodeon, the TV channel that specializes in children's cartoons.

Nickelodeon has announced Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, which is a Super Smash Bros.-style fighting game starring characters from various Nickelodeon TV shows. As revealed by IGN, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is in development by Ludosity and Fair Play Labs for PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, with plans to launch the game at some point this fall. The game was announced alongside a trailer that revealed some of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl's playable characters.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl's roster will feature a wide-range of playable characters for fans to choose from. A full list of the confirmed Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl characters so far can be found below, but in the meantime, some of the more notable characters include Leonardo and Michelangelo of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fame, SpongeBob SquarePants, Reptar from Rugrats, Zim from Invader Zim, and Danny Phantom. Here are all the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl characters confirmed so far:

  • Danny Phantom
  • Helga (Hey Arnold!)
  • Leonardo (TMNT)
  • Lincoln Loud (The Loud House)
  • Lucy Loud (The Loud House)
  • Michelangelo (TMNT)
  • Nigel Thornberry (The Wild Thornberrys)
  • Oblina (Aaahh!!! Real Monsters)
  • Patrick Star (SpongeBob SquarePants)
  • Powdered Toast Man (Ren and Stimpy)
  • Reptar (Rugrats)
  • Sandy Cheeks (SpongeBob SquarePants)
  • SpongeBob SquarePants
  • Zim (Invader Zim)

According to IGN's report, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will have 20 stages, with Jellyfish Fields from SpongeBob SquarePants and the Technodrome from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles named specifically. It seems fans will have to wait until we're a little closer to launch before they will be able to find out more stages in an official capacity, but based on what's shown in the trailer, it seems likely that there will be stages based on most of the characters on the roster.

This would keep Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl in line with its Super Smash Bros. inspiration, which has a stage for each playable character's franchise. The Super Smash Bros. influence is apparent with Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl's multiplayer focus as well, with the game supporting local and online multiplayer for four players.

This is far from the first time that a Nickelodeon game took inspiration from a Nintendo franchise. There have been multiple Nickelodeon Kart Racers games that clearly take inspiration from Mario Kart. Whether or not Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl performs any better than those previous games remains to be seen, but fans will find out later this year.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl launches this fall for PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
