This year's E3 has brought with it a slew of JRPG remaster announcements in just the first few days. Following in the footsteps of Square Enix, both developer Level-5 and Bandai Namco have revealed they are remastering 2013's Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, one of their beloved PS3-exclusives, later this year.

The significance of Ni No Kuni's announcement is that it isn't a Sony exclusive, as the game will release on PlayStation 4, PC, and the Nintendo Switch. According to Bandai Namco, it's worth noting the remaster will only be coming to PC and PS4, and that the Switch version is simply a port of the PS3 version. Despite the Switch's technical shortcomings, few developers have been reluctant to bring games to the console, and Bandai Namco has said in the past it planned to make games for the Switch.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch follows the story of a young boy Oliver, who must travel between different worlds in order to rescue his mother. Many have praised the game's art style and anime cinematics produced by Studio Ghibli, while also drawing gameplay comparisons to Game Freak's Pokémon franchise, where Oliver and his friends can capture creatures while in combat and use them as companions. Before it launched in the West, the Ni No Kuni series was exclusive to Japan, with Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch considered an enhanced edition of Ni No Kuni: Dominion of the Dark Djinn, which released in 2010 for the Nintendo 3DS. The game clearly sold well enough that it garnered a western version for the sequel, with Ni No Kuni: Revenant Kingdom launching in 2018.

This isn't the only JRPG remaster announced to be coming to Switch either, as The Last Remnant Remastered was announced and released almost simultaneously for the system during Square Enix's E3 press conference. The Switch has shown in the two years since launch that it's a viable platform for developers big and small to port or remaster older games to, and still sell extremely well. With developers such as Level-5, Bandai Namco, and Square Enix continuing to support their beloved JRPGs, fans will have much to look forward to in 2019.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered will release on September 20th for Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 4.
