About a year ago, Level-5 confirmed that it was working on a new entry in the Ni No Kuni series, hinting that it would also be coming to mobile devices. As it turns out, yes, the new game, titled Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds, is coming to mobile, and it’s going to be a full-on MMORPG.

Originally announced back in November, the game got a fresh marketing push this week with the launch of its official website and a brand new trailer. The website updates a fair bit of information about Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds, including its story. This time, players will play as beta testers for a virtual reality game whose world, they soon realize, is actually real, which leads them into an adventure where they must fight enemies and rebuild their kingdom in order to save the two worlds from ruin.

According to the original announcement, the game will sport a MMO-friendly spin on series combat, featuring fast real-time action that players will be able to spice up with the help of Ni No Kuni’s distinct familiars. The MMO elements, meanwhile, will center around the kingdom-building mechanic. Each player guild will have their own kingdom and will be able to compete with players from other kingdoms in PvP battles, and winning these will increase the influence a kingdom can have over the events that play out around it.

It all sounds pretty ambitious for a mobile MMORPG, but right now Cross Worlds has only been confirmed to launch for iOS and Android devices in Japan, so it remains to be seen if this is something all Ni No Kuni fans will be able to experience.
