It goes without saying that BioShock fans are incredibly excited about Cloud Chamber's long-awaited reboot of the popular retrofuturistic horror franchise. A new entry in the iconic series was announced by 2K very recently, with the publisher hinting that the game was still fairly early into development. However, fans weren't exactly sure whether to take the company by its word, with many leaks hinting that a BioShock sequel could've been in development as early as 2018. Unfortunately, it seems 2K wasn't overexaggerating how long the sequel would take to finish.

Revealed in a recent third-quarter earnings report from Take-Two, 2K was incredibly open about the state of the newest game in the BioShock series and when fans could expect to see it. Discussing the decision to create the team behind the fourth game in the franchise, the publisher noted that, "Cloud Chamber has started to work on the next iteration of the globally acclaimed BioShock franchise, which will be in development for the next several years."

Very plainly put, BioShock will be under wraps for a number of years to come, seemingly hinting that Cloud Chamber's new take on the franchise is an entirely different one to the project leaked back in 2018. It seems the studio truly is in the early stages of development, meaning that fans will have a long wait before getting to see what the newest entry in the BioShock franchise is all about.

A number of leaks have begun to flesh out where the game could be going, however, with rumors claiming the title has an innovative and ever-changing, story-driven open-world. What this means is anyone's guess, but it seems Cloud Chamber's take on the world of BioShock will look to play around with the franchise's typical format, potentially adding frequent content post-release that will expand the game's narrative and deepen its lore. Alongside that, fans know that Ken Levine won't return to work on the game's story, so it will undoubtedly be a vastly different interpretation of the beloved IP regardless.

Whatever BioShock's fourth entry turns out to be, there's no denying that fans are ready to see where the universe will go next. Whether it's to a location already visited within the previous games or something new entirely, Cloud Chamber has a lot to live up to when it releases its take on the iconic video game series sometime in the next few years.

BioShock is in development for unspecified platforms.
