Wednesday morning, Nintendo unveiled new information about its upcoming Pokemon games, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, Pokemon Shining Pearl, and Pokemon Arceus. But for fans who just can't wait until November for a new Pokemon game, Nexomon has another option to consider. Nexomon is a Pokemon-like game from developer VEWO Interactive originally released in 2017 on mobile phones. Now VEWO is ready to bring the original Nexomon to consoles and has released a new gameplay trailer to help build some hype.

The short Nexomon gameplay trailer runs less than a minute and a half long, but it covers a lot of ground. The trailer starts by working to make clear just how similar Nexomon is to classic Pokemon titles. It's a 2D RPG with sprite-based artwork. The player takes on the roll of an adventurer, taming Nexomon and taking them battling through a huge world and a complex story. Players will meet a roster of diverse characters along the way in pursuit of becoming a Nexomon master tamer.

Getting into more specific gameplay elements, the trailer confirms that Nexomon features over 300 different Nexomon to tame, including evolutions. Interested gamers can see a broad sample of how Nexomon's gameplay compares to Pokemon throughout the trailer. Teams of up to six Nexomon can be taken into battle, where they'll fight using type-based abilities that work in a rock-scissors-paper combat structure just like in Pokemon.

But Nexomon also diverges from Pokemon in some interesting ways. One example that's shown in the new Nexomon trailer is the game's skill trees. These aren't complex ARPG skill trees, but there's more depth here than in Pokmon. Every ability that a Nexomon can unlock is available within their skill tree, with higher power skills requiring the Nexomon gain experience and levels. The player can then select up to four abilities they want to use from the Nexomon's skill tree as they please, so long as they're outside of combat.

Make no mistake, Nexomon makes no apologies about being a game heavily inspired by Pokemon, only originally intended to tap into the mobile game market. And now that it's a proven success, even releasing a sequel in Nexomon Extinction, it's looking to expand onto other platforms where Pokemon remains unavailable.

For Pokemon fans whose interest has been piqued, Nexomon's console release date is quickly approaching. Nexomon launches on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on September 17. PC gamers can check it out now, as it's been available since 2020. Those who don't want to wait can check out the sequel, Nexomon Extinction, today, as it already launched in 2020, too.

Nexomon is available now on PC and mobile devices, and will launch September 17 on PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
