Game Rant's New Year's Resolutions

Game Rant's New Year's Resolutions

In 2011 count on Game Rant continuing to put out more great news, reviews and editorial content than ever. As individual gamers though, each member of the GR staff knows there's room to grow -- better ways of spending every precious gaming moment. Now, one more year the wiser, some of us wanted to share our new year's gaming resolutions.

Certainly, 2011 looks like it could be one of the best years in gaming ever. Practically every big franchise of this generation is making a triumphant return -- Uncharted, Gears of War, Portal, and so many others. There's also bound to be large changes with regards to motion control gaming and 3D technology, but how much attention do they demand? Of course, even considering how great the year ahead looks, sometimes it's important to reflect on the past as well.

Without further ado, here's Game Rant's new year's gaming resolutions:

John Jacques:

  • My New Year's gaming resolution is to play the stack of about 10-15 games that I have either bought in store or digitally, which I haven't friggin' played yet! Everything from Stalker to Max Payne 2 to Halo Wars to about 6 Steam titles, which have yet to do anything but collect dust.

Ben Kendrick:

  • My new year's gaming resolution is stop obsessing about every "must play" title - and truly enjoy the ones that I end-up purchasing. Out of all the games I played in 2010, only a handful interested me enough to return for multiple play-throughs - or provided a compelling reason to jump into multiplayer matches with friends. On that note, I'm not likely to purchase 2011's Call of Duty: (Fill in the Blank) - even if all my friends are playing it.

Jon Lavallee:

  • My new year's gaming resolution is to avoid adding more to my list of shame. There are far too many games that I have yet to play, so if I commit to keeping up with games this year then my back catalog won't stack up. Between new titles, I can tackle games from the list.

Jeff Schille:

  • My new year's gaming resolution is to spend more time playing online. Time was, I spent endless hours in Phantasy Star Online, but for years I've barely touched the online modes in most of the games I play. I know I'm cheating myself and my friends out of some potentially great times, so 2011 is the year I step up my online gaming presence.

Jason Weissman:

  • My NYR is to break my pursuit of achievement points since they add nothing to a game's story or gameplay. Damn, already blew that one.
  • My other resolution is to keep an open mind regarding 3D gaming. Maybe it will change the paradigm we're used to... but I doubt it. D'oh!

Phillipe Bosher:

  • I'd have to say that my NYR is to try to play and complete more point and click adventure games. I'm the sort of gamer that loves deep, involving narratives in video games, and PnCs are often touted as being leaders in that particular area. Plus, the LucasArts games are damn funny!

Riley Little:

  • My gaming resolution is to play through Mass Effect 1 and 2. I've heard they are both incredible games and I've yet to give them a fair chance. I'll tackle the original and then port my data over to Mass Effect 2. If it all works out I'll be all ready just in time for Mass Effect 3!

Tyler Davis:

  • My resolution for 2011 is to take a trip through gaming history and replay all of the "Tales of" games, from Tales of Phantasia to Tales of Vesperia. I want to play through them all again simply because it's my favorite series and J-RPGs are my favorite type of games.

Anthony Taormina:

  • As someone who very rarely can get into an MMO, my New Year's Resolution is to commit myself to at least one MMO. While I am anticipating The Old Republic will be my MMO of choice I am open to the other titles that 2011 has to offer as well. If all goes according to plan, I should be growing a beard, living off Hot Pockets, and hot keying with the best of them.

Andrew Dyce:

  • My resolution for 2011 is to spend more time with my PlayStation 3. Not that I've become an Xbox 360 fanboy, but this past year was loaded with system exclusive games like Halo: Reach, Alan Wake, Fable III, and Mass Effect 2. With 2011's spotlight swinging back to the PS3 with Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, and Resistance 3 I'm making it my goal to get reacquainted with the six-axis.

Scott Young:

  • My gaming resolution is to finally sit down and beat the first two Uncharted games before Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception drops this year. As a PS3 owner, I feel I'm doing an injustice to gamers everywhere by not experiencing these two exclusive titles. Having a severe addiction to multiplayer games certainly increases the difficulty of sitting down alone to play through a full single player game for me, but 2011 will be my redefining year. I'll just have to suffer through my lack of Call of Duty experience points, but I'm certain it will be worth the withdrawal.

Rory Young:

  • For 2011 I'm keeping my resolution simple: finish games! Gran Turismo 5, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Red Dead Redemption -- these are just a few of the games I only played about half of. My full resolution is not move on to a different game until I've finished whatever I'm currently playing. Then again, I'm currently playing Mass Effect 2 on Insanity difficulty, which gives me 12 days before Ghost Trick comes out, or 3 days if I end up playing Lost in Shadow!

Robert Keyes:

  • In 2011, my goal is to prepare for the onslaught of video game sequels. I need to complete Dragon Age: Origins and its expansion; Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood; inFamous, Batman: Arkham Asylum, StarCraft II, Dead Space and many others. 2010 was a busy year for gaming but if you look at 2011, there's an average of nearly 2 major releases per week and not enough time to play them. I need to find a way to rearrange my life to have more time for gaming.

There you have it! Do you share any of the GR staff's resolutions? What resolutions are you making to improve your gaming hobby in 2011? Make sure to check out Game Rant's year end gaming award nominations, and look forward to our announcement of the winners early next week.
