Next Xbox Console in the Works, Suggests Job Listing

A post for a new job listing on Microsoft's website has many speculating that the company may be working on the official successor console to the Xbox One.

The current console generation is almost 5 years in, which has many speculating when next generation consoles will be coming. With current rumors of the PlayStation 5 being in development, it was only a matter of time before murmurings of Microsoft's next console would start floating around. A recent posting on Microsoft's site has many believing the company is getting ready to work on it.

The post in question seems to be for a job listing with the company. While the listing doesn't flat out state Microsoft is working on a new console, there are some job details and descriptions that seem to point that Microsoft may be getting ready to do so. Part of the listing talks about how Microsoft ships millions of units of hardware every year, which includes its Xbox One consoles. It also says to "come be part of what's next."

That last sentence wasn't the only thing interesting about the post, either. The job listing itself goes into a little bit of detail about what the role entails. The position seems to be for a Senior Engineer that would handle DRAM technologies for the Xbox console development team. The listing further states the position will be working on these technological solutions for "currently shipping and future Xbox design projects." The types of DRAM brought up in the listing include DDR3, GDDR5, GDDR6, along with any yet to be released DRAM tech.

Much like the updates Sony has made to the PlayStation 4, including the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro, Microsoft has released newer versions of the Xbox One since it launched. The updated versions have been the Xbox One S, which was a slimmer version of the original, and the company recently released the Xbox One X. Much like the PS4 Pro, the Xbox One X is a more powerful version of the Xbox One.

There has been no official word from Microsoft regarding these rumors, whether to confirm or deny them. The company will more than likely remain tight-lipped on the subject for the time being. A new console announcement would be reserved for a big event, such as the upcoming E3 2018.
