Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass subscription service enjoys an influx of new games on a monthly basis, usually consisting of a mix between day one releases, triple-A blockbusters, and popular indie games. March 2022 has proven to be a particularly strong month for Xbox Game Pass, with even more day one games than usual. Xbox Game Pass subscribers already had a lot to look forward to in March 2022, but recent developments have made the month even more exciting.
It's been well-established that Microsoft announces new Xbox Game Pass games in two week batches. This held true for the new Xbox Game Pass games for March 2022, as Microsoft kicked off the month by revealing the games that would be available in the first two weeks, and then followed up on that announcement with another reveal in the middle of the month. The games that Microsoft formally announced for Xbox Game Pass were already enough to establish March as a particularly strong month for the subscription service, but Microsoft surprised users with some unexpected day one releases.
On March 16, Microsoft surprise-launched two day one Xbox Game Pass games in the form of Paradise Killer and Tunic. Both games have earned strong reviews, with Tunic earning particular praise from critics. Tunic being an Xbox console exclusive game makes it an even more notable Xbox Game Pass release, and one of the strongest Game Pass releases of the year so far.

Besides surprise-launching Paradise Killer and Tunic, Microsoft also announced a third game that will be coming to Xbox Game Pass later in March in the form of Kraken Academy. Kraken Academy has previously been available on other platforms, but is just now making its Xbox debut as a day one Game Pass game come launch on March 22.
These surprise additions enhance an already-stacked lineup of new Xbox Game Pass games for March 2022. March has already seen the likes of Far: Changing Tides, Kentucky Route Zero, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Young Souls added to the lineup, and looking ahead there's day one games like Crusader Kings 3 and Weird West right around the corner.
