There was a time when Amazon Game’s New World seemed set to be the hit MMO of 2021. However, despite a relatively successful launch, a combination of bugs and other issues caused its player base to shrink dramatically over the following months.

However, New World isn’t dead yet, and developers continue to support it with regular content updates. The latest of the updates, game version 1.6.2, arrived on August 9, introducing a new Expedition and a variety of bug fixes and UI adjustments.

New Worlds’ newest Expedition is called Barnacles and Black Powder. The player will battle the mutated Admiral Blackpowder, who looks a lot like Davey Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean, and his crew of corrupted cutthroats. The new Expedition features three new Mutations, multiple new items, and bosses and has a recommended level of 66. New World developers originally planned to release Barnacles and Black Powder earlier in the month as an extension of the Summer Medleyfaire Event. However, it was postponed due to an undisclosed issue and went live on August 9. New World players can begin the Expedition from the Cutlass Keys.

On a related note, New World’s 1.6.2 update also addresses a few Expedition-related bugs. These include resolving the issue that caused the game to count New World’s PvP Arenas and other modes towards players’ Expedition run limit. Developers also fixed a bug that caused open-world combat music to play instead of Expedition music.

The patch also contains an assortment of general fixes, including resolving various server errors and crashes. Amazon developers also fixed an issue that prevented players from switching servers using New World’s World Transfer system. They also introduced a 72-hour cooldown period between World and Regional transfers. Other general fixes include resolving an issue that caused distant objects to appear frozen and another that allowed Hidden Stashes to appear despite being on hiatus during New World’s summer event.

The remaining fixes and adjustments concern New World’s user interface and social systems. First, developers fixed a visual issue with the description text in the trading post. They also polished up the visuals on the song selection interface for the Musical Performances added by New World’s July update. Amazon Games additionally fixed an issue with the Divine Vengeance weapon skin displaying incorrectly in the in-game shop. Finally, the developer tweaked the confirmation message that pops up when players rebind keys to the spacebar.

Fans can check out the full patch notes on the game’s website. Overall, New World’s latest update isn’t quite as substantial as July’s Summer Medleyfaire Update or even the less significant update 1.6.1 that came after. Still, New World players will hopefully be pleased by the new content and quality of life improvements.
