Amazon's MMO New World has proven to be incredibly popular since it launched last week, but that doesn't mean the game is free of bugs, flaws, and loopholes. Now, New World players are using the morbid fact that death is cheaper than fast travel to exploit the game's respawn system, turning it into a free taxi to the nearest town.

Dying in New World isn't that big a deal at the worst of times--dead players will just respawn at the Inn or camp they last rested at--whereas the game's built-in fast travel system is limited and expensive. This lack of serious penalty for dying has led some players to allow monsters to kill them or even to enable New World's PvP system to exploit the free trip back to town.

New World's map is enormous and its fast travel system has three major requirements: players must be in a shrine or a settlement, they must have enough Azoth resources, and they must have already discovered the location they're fast traveling to. The necessary amount of Azoth rises depending on the weight the player is carrying, the faction in charge of the settlement, and the distance traveled. With all those complicated and flawed features to balance in New World, it may not be a surprise that several fans have decided that dying is simpler and easier.

Reddit user THE_SNEED_CAT declared that until the developers made fast travel more accessible, they would continue to just let monsters or PvP players kill them and abuse the game's respawn mechanics to get around quickly. This isn't the only aspect of New World players have criticized, but it certainly has an impact on the way gamers play the title. THE_SNEED_CAT even brought up the possibility of starting an in-game business to kill players who also want a shortcut to fast travel.

Another Redditor, HellStorm40k, shared an edited meme dedicated to highlighting the convenience factor of this exploit. The image shows a man in an orange shirt, shrugging, with the title reading "When you can't fast travel cause you're over encumbered but you aint gonna drop any of that phat loot" and bottom text reading "Guess I'll die."

A third Redditor, Chinatown15, made an advice post informing other players that repair packs are cheaper than Azoth, so any item durability lost through death is more than worth the trade-off. New World has already made a statement about some features that fans may find troublesome, but as of writing, it doesn't appear that the developers have weighed in on the fast travel situation.

New World is available now on PC.
