It's been over a month now since the release of New World, the brand new MMORPG from Amazon Games. As with any MMO launch, excitement has been at a fever pitch for these first few weeks as players spread out across the island of Aeternum, fighting, exploring, and gathering materials. New World puts a special focus on its crafting mechanics, and players are encouraged to constantly collect resources while questing.

There are 17 Trade Skills in New World, divided into Gathering, Refining, and Crafting. One of the most useful Gathering Skills is Logging, which provides the raw materials for hundreds of crafting recipes. All players need to start Logging is a Logging Axe and a ready supply of trees, but leveling up the skill efficiently requires a little more thought.

How to Level Logging in New World

New World Chopping Down Tree

Like the rest of the Gathering Skills in New World, all players need to do to gain Logging XP is use the skill. This means getting out into the wilds of Aeternum to find trees to chop down. Players will need a Logging Axe to do this, which can come in five different tiers, from Flint to Orichalcum. A better Logging Axe will allow players to gather wood more quickly, and with the Logger's Luck Perk players may also increase their chance of gaining rare resources.

As players level up their Logging Skills in New World, they'll be able to harvest rarer trees. However, the most common types are Young Trees and Mature Trees, which can be found almost everywhere on the island of Aeternum. These yield Green and Mature Wood respectively, and will be enough to get players through the early levels of Logging.

How to Farm Logging in New World

When it comes to farming Logging XP in New World, players may find it more of a grind than most other Trade Skills. While the Logging Skill can help players find rare trees that yield more materials, leveling up is still a matter of quantity over quality. Using a higher-tier Logging Axe will speed up the process, as will the Lumberjack's Discipline Perk, which gives more XP for each tree chopped. In addition, players should use food-buffs to increase their Luck, as well as Proficiency Boosters to increase yields.

While Young and Mature trees can be found almost anywhere, Ironwood and Wyrdwood are best farmed in specific locations. The map above shows the farming locations on Aeternum these rare trees, with Ironwood in red and Wyrdwood in blue. The purple zone in the Shattered Mountain is home to both Ironwood groves and Angry Earth Wolves, which can be logged for Wyrmwood after they've been killed. Players who are looking to quickly max out their Logging Skill should focus on these trees exclusively.
