New World, Amazon's new MMORPG, is destroying player count records in its first week officially out, turning heads across the industry. With this development, Jeff Bezos, Amazon's Executive Chairman, has spoken out about New World's successful launch.

Quickly Amazon became one of the easiest ways to shop, prompting the biggest stores around the world to begin promoting and emphasizing its online marketplaces in order to stay afloat. While its had success in other ventures, Amazon has really struggled breaking into the games industry. New World's currently very-long queue times are really unfortunate, but also serve as an indication of the game's success in the amount of players looking to experience it.

Jeff Bezos expressed his excitement over New World's success in a pair of tweets. Bezos starts his message not ignoring the troubled history of Amazon's game development by saying, "After many failures and setbacks in gaming we have a success." He goes on to declare how proud he is of Amazon's persistence, offering words of wisdom and encouragement for the team: "View setbacks as helpful obstacles that drive learning. Whatever your goals are, don’t give up no matter how hard it gets." The tweets end with a comparison of two articles about Amazon, the first referencing the success of New World, and the second being the Bloomberg report discussing Amazon's game development struggles.

Prior to this, Bezos has been relatively quiet about Amazon's video game endeavors, and has been especially quiet on Twitter. In 2021 Bezos has only tweeted seven times, making his praise of New World quite attention-grabbing considering his inactivity. Other users naturally took the opportunity to respond to Bezos, citing once more, the game's long queue times and that launch is not the only indication of what makes a game great. In order to avoid any internet slander of its CEO, Amazon made it so that players cannot name themselves "Jeff Bezos" in New World, which could potentially be exploited in gameplay.

Bezos definitely has the right to be happy with Amazon's work here, because as the data shows, there are hundreds of thousands of people wanting to play its game. At the same time, those who responded to Bezos raise a good point, that it still just the game's beginning, and as it stands, there is still a lot of work to be done. Amazon has started cracking down on New World AFK players to help mitigate queue times, which is a good start, but it still has a way to go before the game can truly be considered a hit.

New World is available now on PC.
