It's been a little over a month since Amazon Game Studios released New World, an MMO with a lot of potential that takes some elements from classic games within the genre, but also tries to break the mold. One of New World's most interesting features is that it takes the war between different Factions to another level with the way settlements can be conquered and ruled based on what players want to accomplish in the area. This happens thanks to Companies, the equivalent of traditional guilds in the game, that are put in charge of any settlement they take over, with options to raise or lower taxes for other players.

One of the main problems here is that New World is at its core a game with plenty of PvP, and Companies are created and managed by players - unlike the game's three Factions - which can lead to some abusing their position or exploiting the game for profit. This is precisely what happened with a glitch that allowed New World players to duplicate Gold and materials, which ultimately had a negative impact on the economy and made some individuals richer than the rest of their servers combined.

Amazon did fix the duplication glitch and started handing out bans to players and streamers alike, with the severity of the ban varying depending on the offense. As two players reported on Reddit with separate posts, however, some exploiters didn't get a permanent ban, but instead a temporary one that allowed them to return to the game with all their duped materials and Gold still in place. Because this is not something that happened in a few cases, but rather on a bigger scale, the result is that the economy in New World is still suffering from the duplication glitch and some Companies are getting extremely rich - so much so that they can determine the market's prices.

One of the posts is from a Redditor by the name of gallowb00d, who stated that they love New World and hate to see people quit because farming feels meaningless when prices are still low and many players have all the currency and materials they want. However, it was an impossible situation to handle for Amazon because rolling back the servers would have made thousands of innocent players pay for what others did, but not doing so still makes the current economy flawed.

Because a few worlds are starting to become more and more deserted as a result, New World players advocate for servers to be merged immediately, rather than further down the line. This might not save the game's economy, but it would help with the dwindling population.

New World is available now on PC.
