Wood is a vital crafting material in many MMORPGs, as it is one of the most basic and readily available resources. All one needs to do is chop down some trees to get some, however, in complex games like New World, there are more than just a single type of wood.

This can at first be confusing to new players, as there's a quest to acquire an uncommon type of wood found very early in one's adventures. This uncommon wood, called Aged Wood, can only be harvested after players have done quite a bit of logging.

At first, the only kinds of trees that players can chop down with their Logging Axes are Young Trees, which are very common and can be found in pretty much any forest. However, these youthful oaks and pines only drop Green Wood, which, while useful, is not the Aged Wood one may be seeking.

Players will need to level-grind by chopping down Young Trees to increase their Logging skill before they can fell the kind of trees that give the desired uncommon wood. When one reaches level 50 for their Logging skill, players will unlock the ability to chop down Mature Trees, which are the best harvestable source for Aged Wood.

Thankfully, like Young Trees, Mature Trees can be found quite commonly in many of the wooded areas of the continent. They take a fair deal longer to chop down, at first, so be sure to get a better Logging Axe if possible to make the harvesting more efficient.

The yield of Aged Wood from each felled Mature Tree will be about the same as the amount of Green Wood that drops from every Young Tree, though, this can change as one levels up their character and gets better Logging Axes.

How To Use Aged Wood

While Aged Wood can be a component in many refining recipes for items, it is especially important for tasks pertaining to the Woodworking skill. A vital Tier 3 kind of wooden plank, Lumber, needs quite a lot of Aged Wood to produce a single piece as well as some Timber.

To create 1 piece of Lumber, players will need 4 Aged Wood and 2 Timber, so aspiring carpenters will need to gather a lot of this tree-borne resource. Lumber can be used to refine a wide variety of items such as those for weaponsmithing, furnishing, engineering, and even some arcana.
