There's a lot to explore once players officially drop into Amazon Games' upcoming MMO New World. It starts in the mid-1600s, where they're tasked with colonizing a fictional colonial America in the Atlantic Ocean called Aeternum. That means questing, discovering the world, or fighting other players and hostile monsters.

The good thing is that the experience of taking over America doesn't have to be a grueling one. New World fans have the option of joining three factions, all of which are powerful organizations struggling for control of Aeternum. All of them have the same intentions of colonizing America, though each has its own principles and motivations. It's easy to assume that each comes with its own advantages. With a month before it officially drops, here are New World's faction benefits explained.

New World Faction Benefits Explained

The three main factions in New World are the Marauders, the Syndicate, and the Covenant. Each comes with a different visual armor design, guild, and background story. However, there aren't any major gameplay benefits for choosing factions, save for things like discounts if they're traveling within their own faction territory. Still, players interested in the lore of each may want some information on each of the factions when designing their character.

  • The Syndicate: This faction is a secretive organization of boundless guile and intellect searching for forbidden knowledge to usher in a new age of enlightenment.
  • The Covenant: This faction is seen as a fanatical order that has charged itself with cleansing the land of heretics and defilers so that its true holy nature can flourish and justice can be restored.
  • The Mauraders: This faction is a ruthless military force bent on establishing a free nation where anyone with the strength to do so can prosper and profit.

While there aren't any major gameplay advantages between factions, each does have its own specialized equipment for players to choose from. This can range from items like skull helmets for Marauders or plague doctor outfits for Syndicate. As a result, the gameplay between the three will carry a slight difference akin to New World's class-exclusive items and materials.

Even so, that doesn't mean that there aren't any advantages to be had. As a PvP focused game, most of New World's faction benefits greatly rely on the amount of territory controlled in Aeternum. Depending on which faction has greater control, they'll benefit from stronger attacks against monsters, higher quantities of New World's resources when gathering, craft higher quality equipment, and greater luck while looting. Basically, the more territory controlled, the more powerful players become.

Of course, there's no true way to tell which faction will eventually take over Aeternum, though players should still be wary of which they decide to align with. New World players only get one faction change for free, and after that, it's 120 days to change factions again. There's also no way to suddenly join the winning team, as players are prohibited from joining a faction that's controlling most of the territory.

New World is scheduled to be released on August 31 for PC.
