Creating one's ideal weapon from scratch can be a fun but long journey in New World, as to gather, refine, and craft the raw materials into something worthwhile will take the use of multiple skills. Furthermore, all respective skills will need to be high enough to work with the higher-tier materials.

As such, it is arguably more efficient for those interested in New World's crafting mechanics to ignore leveling specific gathering and refining skills in favor of simply buying raw or refined materials from markets all over the map. Those seeking to become the best at Weaponsmithing in the game can instead focus their efforts on transforming metals, wood, and more into valuable weapons with which to slay enemies or sell for great profit.

What Is Needed To Craft Weapons

There are multiple components that go into crafting a weapon, as well as multiple options for each open slot. The higher tier the weapon, the more slots there are in general.

Metals

Metal is often the primary ingredient in a lot of crafting recipes for weapons. Players can pick different types of metal depending on the lowest-tier metal possible for any particular weapon as well as which kinds of ingots the player has in their possession. It's important to note that players will need ingots of the desired metal, as ore cannot be used to craft weapons directly.

Wood

When creating a weapon, wood follows a similar trend to metal, but as a secondary ingredient. The tier of wood used also matters for the end result: the higher the better. Wood also needs to be refined into the form of planks before it can be used in most cases.

Leathers

Much like with metal and wood, leathers of various kinds can be slotted into some kinds of weapons. Using higher-tier materials once more will prove useful for those seeking to make better gear.

Special

This slot is for special items that add perks to weapons. These perks grant passive effects that can benefit players in battle, such as giving their weapon a special trait or buffing some of the player's stats when wielded, among many other possibilities.

Keep in mind that the effects being inserted into the weapon are not guaranteed, but are percentage chances that players can gauge by looking on the right side of the screen to where the effects are. There will be a word, such as "Medium" or High" to indicate one's chance of applying specific effects to an item during the crafting process.

Azoth

The all-purpose blue goo comes in handy for Weaponsmithing as well. To increase the chances of the desired effects from the inserted special item getting placed onto a weapon being crafted, players can insert Azoth into the crafting recipe. Azoth is not required to craft a weapon; it is completely optional, but boosts the chances of applying an effect greatly.

Workstation For Weaponsmithing

Weapons can be crafted at a Forge, with higher-tier Forges allowing for the crafting of better weapons. Players will understandably need a high Weaponsmithing skill to make the best weapons, which can be done by level grinding. There are a few items in New World that can be cheap to craft and offer comparatively more Weaponsmithing XP than others.

Weaponsmithing Level Grinding Tip

One such item is not a weapon, but a consumable called the Weak Honing Stone. The Weak Honing Stone, when used, will increase the player's weapon damage by 200% for a brief period, but this is not the reason to make a bunch of them.

They grant 36 Weaponsmithing XP each and only cost 1 Stone, 1 Fire Mote, and 1 Death Mote each--very inexpensive for the XP gained. Pretty much any weapon will take more materials than this, even the lowest-tier ones, and will not give better XP for the added resource cost.

How To Increase The Tier Of A Forge

To increase the tier of a Forge, players will need to perform Town Projects in the settlement within which they wish to do some crafting. Specifically, the "Upgrade Settlement" task is the one that increases the tiers of various workstations.

New World is available on Microsoft Windows.
