Unlike a lot of other refining and crafting mechanics in New World, Furnishing isn't as complex, however, players will still need a variety of materials to make use of this skill if they want the best goods. It's possible to get by as a dedicated carpenter by just focusing on raising one's Furnishing skill and buying materials, despite doing everything from scratch being cheaper and more satisfying for some.

The reason New World players should consider doing some Furnishing, if they haven't already, is that some of the items created through this skill, like trophies and incense, can give players useful temporary buffs that can be reapplied (unlike the buffs gained from foods, which are single-use).

What Materials Are Needed For Furnishing

new world metals and wood

Furnishing, overall, will require the kinds of materials borne from Mining and Woodcutting the most, due to these methods being the prime way to harvest various metals and types of wood from the world. Metals and wood are the primary ingredients for a lot of the crafting recipes, so be sure to stock up on them before setting out to do some Furnishing.

If players do not want to do a lot of Mining and Woodcutting, it's also possible to buy many kinds of lower-tier metals and types of wood for relatively cheap, though, with that said, as one begins to require rarer and higher-tier materials for their Furnishing needs, paying for them will get increasingly expensive.

About Metals Used In Furnishing

The metals that seem most used in Furnishing, especially low-tier items, are Iron Ingots and Steel Ingots. Even higher-tier goods don't seem to use a great amount of rarer metals, though, there are some exceptions. Thankfully, this means that aspiring carpenters can more easily grab the metals they need either by Mining and Smelting themselves or buying the needed ingots for averagely low prices.

About The Types Of Wood Used In Furnishing

Wood is definitely the most-needed material for Furnishing, as pretty much every worthwhile item to craft will have some sort of wood listed as either a primary ingredient or secondary one. Players are recommended to level up their Woodcutting and Woodworking skills in order to get a lot more wood cheaply, as, unlike metals used in Furnishing, the best items require rare and high-tier wood such as Ironwood Planks.

About The Other Kinds Of Materials Needed For Furnishing

Besides metal and wood, there are a few other kinds of resources needed for Furnishing, though, not to nearly the same extent as the aforementioned materials. Solvent is pretty important, as it is for a lot of other refining and crafting ventures because it allows players to form things accordingly.

Plants are also needed due to them providing flexible and stringy materials to bind things. Spices play a role as well, though only really for incense--particularly the more powerful and higher-tier ones. There are other odds and ends that will be needed, depending on the item one is trying to make, but the above are the most needed of the less important Furnishing materials

What Workstation Is Needed For Furnishing

new world workshop tier 5

For all of one's Furnishing pursuits, players will need to hit up a kind of workstation called a Workshop. These places will be found within settlements and are also tied to the kinds of items that can be made with the Engineering skill.

In order to make higher-tier pieces of furniture, players will eventually have to start using higher-tier Workshops. Finding higher-tier Workshops will require players to either explore around different settlements or to upgrade a Workshop in their desired settlement. Increasing the tier of a Workshop will require players to complete Town Projects--specifically the "Upgrade Settlement" task.

What Kinds Of Items Players Can Make With Furnishing

While there are a lot of nice bits of furniture players can decorate their homes with for pleasant aesthetics, there are also some items that will be useful to interact with prior to exploring or going into combat.

About Trophies

Some trophies, such as the Minor Luck Trophy, will grant players a nice passive buff when looting or opening a chest, which explorers will likely be doing a lot, so planting such an item in one's house could be very useful.

About Incense

Like trophies, there are a bunch of different incense one can make, and all with varying functions as well. For example, a great item for a defensive buff is the Powerful Incense, which grants much greater resistance to afflictions for half an hour.
