In order to craft the best armor, the player's Armoring skill will need to be high, however, this is not the only factor in New World that affects one's potential Armoring adventures. The materials that gamers will need for their Armoring deeds must either be acquired through creating them from scratch or buying the materials from a settlement market.
Furthermore, there are quite a few aspects of the Armoring skill itself that New World players should understand before committing too many resources into creating their next set of gear.
What Is Needed To Make Armor
Types Of Armor
There are 3 types of armor in New World: light armor, medium armor, and heavy armor. Each requires the same kinds of materials, but in different ratios and with different materials occupying the primary ingredient slot.
Leathers
This group of materials is the most important for medium armor and appears as the primary ingredient in such crafting recipes. Leathers are also moderately important for crafting heavy and light armor. To get various types of leather, players can buy some or craft it at a Tannery from raw hide.
Metals
Metals are the primary ingredient in crafting recipes for heavy armor, and, as such, their crafting recipe requirements will be dominantly metal-based. For medium and light armor, metals are only needed sparingly, though are still vital components. Players will need metals in the form of ingots (based on the particular item's crafting requirements), which they can obtain by Smelting ore at a Furnace or buying some.
Cloths
The most crucial component for light armors, cloths are the primary ingredient for making them. Cloth is also needed to create heavy and medium armor in decent amounts. To attain cloth-type material, players can (once more) buy some or craft it at a Weaver from different kinds of fibers.
Special Resource
Like with Weaponsmithing, players can insert a special item into this slot to give a piece of gear the chance to obtain an additional effect. For example, players can put materials into this slot that will allow it to increase the player's stats when worn or to give the piece or armor increased damage reduction to a particular element.
Azoth
This very versatile blue substance can be used in Armoring by inserting it into any crafting recipe. Azoth will not increase the gear score or stats of the armor piece but will make the chance of applying the effect from the special slot higher.
Where To Make Armor
Armoring is a bit of a weird skill due to the crafting being split between 2 different stations. Heavy armor will need to be made at a Forge while medium and light armor are made at an Outfitter Station. As with all refining and crafting, the tier of a workstation will allow players to make higher-tier gear.
To increase the tier of a workstation, players will need to do Town Projects in the settlement they are working within. In the Town Projects, gamers need to perform the "Upgrade Settlement" task, which increases the tier of all workstations.
How To Increase The Armoring Skill Level Quickly
About Level-Grinding
Level-grinding the Armoring skill will involve crafting a lot of the same pieces of armor repeatedly. This is best done with cheap and low-tier items that only require a minimal amount of materials. A couple of great choices for this pursuit are the Linen Shoes and Coarse Leather Boots.
Linen Shoes
- 5 Linen
- 3 Coarse Leather
- 1 Iron Ingot
This piece of leg armor is very inexpensive to make, as it only needs low-tier materials. Despite this, it actually grants proportionately more Armoring XP than more expensive pieces of gear if one weighs the number of materials required.
Coarse Leather Boots
- 5 Coarse Leather
- 3 Linen
- 1 Iron Ingot
Similarly, the Coarse Leather Boots can be used for the same Armoring goals but swapping the leather and cloth requirements from the Linen Shoes method. Players should decide on which of these to use based on the availability of leather or cloth respectively.
