New World, the fantasy MMORPG from Amazon Games, launched with a great deal of excitement at the end of September. Two weeks on, players have already reached the top level of 60, and are diving into end-game content. This includes crafting top-tier gear, as, unlike many MMOs, New World puts a special focus on crafting and survival mechanics.

There are 17 Trade Skills in New World for players to master, covering every aspect of the crafting process. One of the most interesting of these is the Engineering Skill, which allows players to craft Spears, Hatchets, Ranged Weapons, Ammunition, and even Gathering Tools.

How to Level Engineering in New World

New World Where to Find Voidmetal

In order to use the Engineering Skill, players will need to find one of New World's crafting tables. Engineering can be done at the Workshop for Ranged Weapons, Ammunition, and Tools, or at the Forge for Melee Weapons. Players will have to pay a small tax to use these tables in occupied settlements.

Like all skills in New World, players will gain Engineering XP simply by using the skill to craft. Higher tier items will give more XP, but players will be unable to craft them until they've gone through the basic levels. It will also be more difficult to acquire the materials for high-tier recipes without first leveling up the appropriate Gathering and Refining Skills.

Although all Engineering recipes give XP, the secret to leveling Engineering fast in New World is to focus on those that give the most XP for the least effort. One of the easiest recipes to focus on is Proficiency Boosters, useful potions that buff Gathering for 10 minutes.

All players need to create the lowest level Proficiency Booster is Engineering Level 20, a Tier 2 Workshop, 1 Air Mote, 1 Soul Mote, and 1 Water. These resources are fairly easy to harvest from magical plants on New World's island of Aeternum, and can also be mined from Soulspire and Shockpire formations with Mining Level 50 or above.

Alternatively, players may want to quickly level up their New World Engineering Skill by crafting ammunition. Both Arrows and Cartridges give a surprising amount of XP for their materials, and will always be useful to a player. While Crafting Arrows is very simple, players can learn how to craft Cartridges with our New World: How to Craft Bullets guide. Whichever method is chosen, it will take perseverance and hours of crafting to level the Engineering Skill to the top tier.

New World is out now for PC.
