New World has had nothing short of a controversial, yet commercially successful release. Between a myriad of game-breaking bugs, glitches, and exploits, Amazon Game Studios has had its hands full navigating through the game's post-launch stage. Perhaps the most damaging to the state of New World has been the continuous reappearance of duping glitches that allowed players to throw the game's economy into disarray. The development team's decision to reduce New World's housing tax is directly tied to the latest of those incidents.

After shutting down the trading posts in New World for the third time to combat the effects of duping, as well as the game's wealth transfer system, it has left many players without a means to reliably pay rent for their houses, being bereft of steady income. In response, Amazon Game Studios has elected to temporarily and dramatically reduce the housing tax in Aeternum by 90%.

This tax reduction will seemingly be in effect until New World's December update, by which time the duping exploits and the damage they caused to the state of the game will be reversed or a solution to steadily restore New World's econony will be implemented. Amazon Game Studios has also gone on to apologize to the players who have been impacted by the recent issues.

In addition to reducing the housing tax, the development team has also raised Company income in New World from homeownership, with the intent being to prevent a loss of income until the December update, promising further means of compensation in future patches to address the problem.

Players have expressed their disdain at the inconsistency with which Amazon Game Studios has handled issues that arose in New World ever since its launch, as well as exhaustion in waiting for the development team to make Aeternum a pleasant world to call home with an experience uninterrupted by frustrating bugs and malicious gameplay. Specifically, those among New World's player base who have dabbled in the game's crafting system have made the connection that this temporary solution implied trading trophies wouldn't be possible until the December update at the earliest.

No one knows yet how Amazon Game Studios will address the duping crisis that has plagued the New World's economy once the trading posts open back up again, but some among the playerbase have bitterly suggested that the housing tax would dramatically increase as a means to reduce the articficial amounts of gold injected into the economy. Though the reduction of the housing tax has been a welcome change for the players, it is clear that they have not received it happily.

New World is available now on PC.
