New World, the brand new MMORPG from Amazon Games, opened its doors to players at the end of September 2021. Set on the fictional island of Aeternum, New World explores an alternate history filled with magic, monsters, and darkness.
Unlike many MMOs, New World puts a lot of emphasis on its crafting and survival mechanics. There are 17 Trade Skills in New World for players to master, covering the entire process of Gathering, Refining, and Crafting. One of the most useful Crafting Skills for a magic-based character is Arcana, which allows the creation of magic weapons, potions, and tinctures.
How to Level Arcana in New World
Just like the rest of New World's Crafting Skills, players will only be able to use Arcana at a specific crafting station. In this case its the Arcane Repository, which can be upgraded through five tiers. Players will need to find or build better Repositories as they move up through the Arcana Skill levels.
Gaining Arcana XP in New World is as simple as using the skill to Craft. This means that the only limit to how fast a player can level up the skill is how quickly they can gather and refine raw materials. Higher tier crafting recipes will give more XP each, but also require higher tier materials. These can be particularly tricky to acquire, often requiring players to either level up Gathering and Refining Skills to top level, or spend a huge amount buying from other players.
How to Farm Arcana in New World
While crafting any Arcana recipe will award XP, the most efficient way to level up the skill in New World is through focusing on only a few. Players who want to farm Arcana XP should focus primarily on potions and tinctures, and mostly ignore the magical weapons. This is because these are crafted using Reagents, which allow players to harvest a wide range of ingredients and still combine them into the same potion.
For example, a Common Health Potion can be made by combining any Tier 2 Medicinal Reagent with Water. This includes Glowing Mushroom Cap, Gillflower Gills, Platecap Flesh, Sporebloom Fruit, and Lifebloom Stems. Focusing on potions while leveling up the Arcana Skill in New World allows players to gather a more diverse set of resources, without having to wait for respawns. At later levels players will also have to mix various Elemental Reagents into their recipes, but fortunately these offer just as many options as the Medicinal and Magical Reagents.
