New World, Amazon Games' foray into the world of MMORPGs, is slowly finding its footing as of this article. While its reviews on Steam have climbed to "Mostly Positive," it still has hurdles to overcome like long maintenance times in Europe.

Despite the problems, many players are finding ways to have fun in New World. Some of that centers on the Companies (guilds) of the game, where players can cooperate to claim territory and defeat rivals. While some players have taken to robbing their companies blind, others have pulled off feats of cooperation that make for hilarious and cathartic moments.

A group of 50 players in a Covenant aligned Company set up a surprise for another company, presumably one their Company was already at war with. While some of the Covenant began to draw enemies into a chokepoint, the main 50-player force sat in ambush on a rocky outcrop. They hid, pressed together tightly, behind a short ledge that hid them form the ground below until they swarmed out to attack. What followed was a glorious display of chaotic combat and New World's awkward weapon swapping. Warning: some foul language ahead.

The massacre was well thought out and the battle was over in seconds. How impactful this was in the overall war between the two groups is not known, but it was a fantastic maneuver no matter the final result. The ambush spot itself is actually part of a quest, so anyone with a good memory, or who built a New World minimap for themselves, could lead others there for a similar attack. Incidentally, the move did not go unappreciated by the opponents of the 50-man group, as a streamer on the receiving end also got it on video. Warning: more foul language.

The whole moment was a pretty good endorsement of the game, as it shows off one of the reasons players enjoy MMORPGs so much: player-created moments enjoyed with friends. Although the fighting methods might be funny (but effective) it doesn't matter provided people are having fun.

Hopefully New World's problems are smoothed out so that moments like this, with many people having fun at once, can become the norm. Players are still figuring out how best to settle into New World and its warfare, even requesting the ability to fight their own Faction in order to combat "friendly" Companies.

New World is out now for PC.
