When it was announced that Call of Juarez: The Cartel would be leaving the Wild West and moving to a more modern setting, fans were a little apprehensive. Sadly, their fears ended up becoming reality as The Cartel ended up being very lackluster. However, fans may be able to breathe a sigh of relief as a recent survey from Ubisoft shows that the next Call of Juarez game is likely going to make the trip back to the Old West.
Ubisoft recently sent out a survey to owners of Call of Juarez: The Cartel, asking what they would like to see in an upcoming, announced game. The list itself evokes thoughts of just about every Western movie ever created, as well as the first two Call of Juarez games. And, to be honest, one of the survey's options - "defending a train attacked by Native Americans on horses" - sounds awesome.
The Call of Juarez games have always been rough around the edges, but were supported by old west charm and enjoyable writing. Looking at this list, it's sure to be a dream come true for not only fans of the series, but Western fans in general. Check it out for yourself:
- Hunting an outlaw in the rocky mountains
- Defending a ranch attacked by Mexican pistolleros
- Preventing a bank robbery
- Rescuing an innocent man about to be hanged up
- Taking part in a shooting contest
- A gun duel in the empty main street of a town against your worst enemy
- Guarding a fort against a group of outlaws
- Helping a man to escape from the sheriff's office
- Defending a train attacked by Native Americans on horses
- A gunfight in a saloon after a poker game
- Preventing outlaws from pillaging a gold mine
- A fusillade between lawmen and outlaws
Aside from the technical issues surrounding the last Call of Juarez game, one of the main issues with the title was it's lackluster story. It's predecessors, Call of Juarez and Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, had a spaghetti western charm to them, and the characters were lovable, making the experience much more enjoyable. It's great to see the franchise seemingly returning to its roots, and hopefully Techland will be able to launch the game without the technical problems that surrounded their last two games.
