The fall months usually represent the biggest months of the year for the video game industry, with many publishers saving their most notable games and blockbuster releases for September, October, and November. Conversely, the winter and summer months are usually some of the slowest for games, with February not really known as a particularly big month for gaming. However, February 2022 is a different story, and may very well end up being one of the biggest months of the entire year for gaming.

Various release date delays and other happenings have set February 2022 up as being a particularly big month for gaming when it comes to new releases. Not only that, but there are rumblings that there may be some major events happening next month as well, with potential for big new game announcements to keep fans buzzing. Between the potential for big events and the games that are confirmed to be releasing next month, February 2022 is going to be huge.

Life is Strange: Remastered Collection was originally supposed to launch last year, but Square Enix made the choice to push its release date back to February 1 instead. Life is Strange: Remastered Collection brings the original Life is Strange game as well as the Before the Storm prequel to new consoles, giving fans the chance to relive the classic story with some added bells and whistles, like improved performance.

Then on February 4, fans can look forward to the launch of Dying Light 2: Stay Human, the open world zombie game from Techland that combines survival-horror with parkour exploration. Horror game fans have been waiting years for Dying Light 2, and so many are relieved that the wait is nearly at an end. The jury is still out on whether or not Dying Light 2 will live up to the hype, but what's been shown of the game has looked impressive so far.

February 8 has a couple of notable game releases in the form of OlliOlli World and Sifu. OlliOlli World is the third entry in the popular OlliOlli indie skateboarding series, whereas Sifu is a unique PlayStation console exclusive martial arts game with an interesting gimmick. Every time the player character dies in Sifu, they respawn as an older version of themselves, and this keeps going on until players are faced with a permanent game over.

A couple of days later on February 10, Xbox fans have an exclusive game of their own to look forward to playing. It's then when CrossfireX will launch for Xbox One and Xbox Series X, featuring a multiplayer component as well as a single-player campaign developed by the acclaimed developers at Remedy Entertainment. CrossfireX's multiplayer will be free-to-play when it launches on Xbox on February 10, though the single-player campaign consist of premium content.

Then on February 17, PC gamers can look forward to the launch of Total War: Warhammer 3, while fighting game fans can check out The King of Fighters 15. The King of Fighters has been one of the longest-running and most consistent fighting game franchises since its inception, so it's certain to drum up some interest in the fighting game community come its launch on the 17th.

The second half of February 2022 is looking especially busy, Total War: Warhammer 3 and King of Fighters 15 followed by the launch of Horizon Forbidden West on February 18. Horizon Forbidden West is the highly-anticipated sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn and will mark the franchise's debut on PlayStation 5. Horizon Forbidden West is a cross-gen game that will be available for both PS4 and PS5, but fans shouldn't worry too much about it being held back. Horizon Forbidden West's graphics look incredible based on what's been shown so far, and it's shaping up to be a significant step forward for the series.

Horizon Forbidden West will be a great pick for single-player gamers, but those who want to get their multiplayer fix in will be excited for Destiny 2: The Witch Queen to launch on February 22. It's been over a year since the launch of the last Destiny 2 expansion, and so fans of Bungie's looter-shooter game are understandably hungry for more content. Destiny 2: The Witch Queen will serve as a significant content drop, making some important changes to the game under the hood while adding a new story campaign to complete, new weapons to master, a new location to explore, and much more.

Co-op gamers will also be interested in Elden Ring when it launches on February 25. Elden Ring is the latest game from acclaimed developer FromSoftware, taking what the studio's established with its Dark Souls games and translating it to a more co-op focused, open world adventure. Elden Ring has all the trappings of being a potential Game of the Year contender, and so it's potentially the biggest release of them all next month, which is saying something.

And finally, February 2022 will also see the launch of racing game GRID Legends on February 25 as well as Evil Dead: The Game, which is currently without a solid release date at the time of this writing. But it's worth pointing out that this is really just the tip of the iceberg. It's quite likely that there are other games coming in February 2022 that don't have release dates yet, plus there are plenty of smaller-scale indie games dropping next month as well. So even if some of these games get pushed back, there should still be no shortage of games for fans to check out in February.

Video Game Events in February 2022

Besides new video game releases, February 2022 has potential to host some big gaming events. None of this has been confirmed at this time, but there are rumors that both Nintendo and Sony will have presentations at some point next month that will highlight upcoming games in the works for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, respectively.

In Nintendo's case, the Big N has hosted a Nintendo Direct nearly every February for years, and so it wouldn't be surprising at all for it to do the same next month. After all, many upcoming Nintendo Switch games for 2022 are currently without release dates, and so a Nintendo Direct event would be the perfect way for it to fill out the calendar.

As far as Sony goes, there have been consistent rumblings that the company is prepping a new State of Play presentation that will take place at some point in February. Again, neither of these presentations have actually been confirmed at the time of this writing, and so fans should take the information with a massive grain of salt for now.
