The Adam Project has been generating a lot of buzz since it was first announced in July 2020, and now Netflix is sharing an exciting new look at the upcoming project. The streamer released an action-packed trailer for Ryan Reynolds' anticipated science fiction film.

Netflix's The Adam Project, directed by Shawn Levy, follows a time-traveling pilot named Adam Reed who crash lands in his past while trying to save the future. Wounded and confused, Adam encounters his 13-year-old self, with whom he must team up to find his late father and save the world from inherent doom.

In addition to showcasing some thrilling action sequences, the new trailer gives further insight into the plot. One of those revelations is that The Adam Project has nothing to do with the multiverse, so fans who are expecting a film along the lines of Spider-Man: No Way Home will be in for something completely different. The teaser also unveils that Adam's goal is to prevent time travel from ever happening and delves into his emotional reunion with his scientist father, who passed away when Adam was a kid. Balancing out the action and heavier themes are some hilarious moments between the Adams, who don't get along.

In addition to Reynolds, The Adam Project stars Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner as Adam's parents, Louis and Ellie Reed. Rounding out the cast are Zoe Saldana as his partner Laura, newcomer Walker Scobell as Adam's younger self, Catherine Keener, and Alex Mallari Jr. The forthcoming project will mark the second collaboration between Reynolds and Levy, as the pair previously worked on the 2021 comedy Free Guy

Reynolds compared The Adam Project to '80s films like E.T and The Goonies. According to Reynolds, The Adam Project and these '80s classics are high concept with huge stakes, but they are also personal.

The similarities are visible in earlier released images for The Adam Project. However, whether The Adam Project will go down in the books of sci-fi movie history or not remains to be seen. Nevertheless, early reviews of the film are positive, and thanks to its creative premise The Adam Project has the potential to become one of the most entertaining films of 2022.

The Adam Project streams on Netflix on March 11, 2022.
