EA Play is in a couple of weeks, but besides Battlefield 2042, many are unsure what to expect. There's been rumors of a Dead Space remaster, a Star Wars game being there, and more. However, it seems EA is taking the smart road and outlining expectations ahead of the show.

Recently, for example, BioWare confirmed the new Dragon Age and Mass Effect games wouldn't be at EA Play. And now, the same can be said of the Star Wars rumors but to a much higher degree.

EA announced today that it won't show any new Star Wars games at EA Play. It went a step further though, actually announcing that the company looks forward to celebrating its vision of the Star Wars universe "next year." In other words, no matter what events take place later this year, fans shouldn't expect to see any new Star Wars games. Indeed, the replies to the below tweet are filled with those who are upset, as this creates a small void during what some would consider a Star Wars video game renaissance.

The two biggest fan hopes for EA Play would have been Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2Battlefront 3, or the rumored KOTOR remake. Any of these would have made a lot of fans happy with the show, but it's better to know now instead of being disappointed by their no show. The first two games seem like natural releases, although Jedi: Fallen Order only released two years ago and Battlefront 2 received a ton of post-launch support, explaining the lack of a sequel announcement this year. KOTOR remake seems like a real possibility now, but still, it's just been a rumor.

Notably, it's not all lost for Star Wars fans. Barring any new delays, Star Wars: The Lego Skywalker Saga is in development and is set for release in 2021. It has already been delayed a couple of times, at least partially due to the coronavirus pandemic, but many are expecting it to release this fall. Notably, developer TT Games did not say this itself, so fans should still be patient and take this with a grain of salt.

In other Star Wars games, there's a ton of untapped potential that will hopefully be unveiled in the coming years. EA's Star Wars contract is coming to an end in 2023, allowing other developers to make games within the franchise too. Ubisoft has already confirmed a Star Wars game, which Disney approved for Ubisoft Massive after seeing Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Either way, while it seems Star Wars games may be quiet for a while, there's certainly a few disturbances in the Force.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is rumored to be in development.
