After the initial teaser released during Star Wars Celebration a couple of months ago, a new full trailer for Andor has dropped to give fans some better insight into what the series’ setting will be like and confirming its late September release.

The new footage was shared during Diego Luna’s visit to Good Morning America on Monday, along with a new promotional poster for Andor and makes ample usage of the show’s cinematography to portray Andor as a promising Star Wars story. Andor of course focuses on its eponymous character, Cassian Andor, who was first introduced in 2016’s Rogue One, which to this day stands tall as one of the best-regarded films made by Lucasfilm during the Disney era.

Andor’s new trailer, however, reveals that the series’ scope will expand beyond its protagonist as many other characters show up to provide the right amount of synergy with other Star Wars content, though Stellan Skarsgård’s Luthen will probably steal the limelight for many here. The show will also suffer a small delay now being pushed back to September 21, when it will drop on the streaming service with a 3-episode premiere that will then move on to weekly releases to complete its first season’s 12-episode run lasting until late November.

Among the familiar faces seen in the trailer is Forret Withaker’s Saw Guerrera, who was last seen in animated form in The Bad Batch, though there still seems to be plenty of Andor’s own origins thrown in there for good measure. Andor’s final look also seem quite different from other Star Wars show on Disney Plus, since Tony Gilroy and the group of directors that worked on the series mostly opted for more traditional scenery and effects, rather than The Mandalorian and MCU’s cutting edge tech.

One thing to keep in mind is that with The Bad Batch's second season set to drop on September 28, Andor’s small delay means Disney Plus will be starved of new Star Wars content during August, a strategy that differs from the recent decision of giving Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ms. Marvel parallel runs on exactly the same day. Unlike the latest two spinoffs, Andor is confirmed to be getting a second season, which means executives are confident in the show’s success from the start.

The writing in Andor will be key to establishing the show as another solid spinoff, with Tony and Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) being joined by Beau Willimon (House of Cards) and Stephen Schiff making a good argument for fans getting a new refreshing take on the franchise.

Andor will premiere on Disney Plus starting September 21, 2022.
