Even after Call of Duty: WWII was declared the best-selling game of 2017, Sledgehammer Games' co-founders and studio heads, Michael Condrey and Glen Schofield, decided to leave the developer last week. They will be transitioning into different roles within the studio's parent company, Activision.

In the wake of Condrey and Schofield's departure, Aaron Halon, who has years of experience with Sledgehammer Games, has recently stepped in to fill the shoes of studio head. Upon assuming this position, Halon decided to write a letter to Call of Duty fans in order to address some of their potential confusion on the matter.

The letter was posted on the Sledgehammer Games page and is also included here:

"Thank you from everyone here at Sledgehammer Games.

This is an incredible time for the studio. As Glen and Michael begin new chapters in their careers, I'm humbled by the opportunity to lead this amazing team of developers. Over the years, I've worn many hats here at the studio, which has allowed me to work side by side with some of the best talent in the business.

As a Call of Duty development studio, we have always been grateful for the chance to make games for the greatest fans in the world. Simply put, there's nothing else like the Call of Duty community, and I'm committed to staying focused on our fans as we continue to support Call of Duty: WWII well into the future. You are our inspiration and motivation.

I thank Glen and Michael for their support, and their mentorship along the way. As great as our history has been at Sledgehammer Games, I feel we can go even higher, and that our best days are yet to come. Thank you.

Yours truly,

Aaron Halon"

Right now, Sledgehammer is working hard on DLC for Call of Duty: WWII and is likely to begin work on a new Call of Duty game, which could be seen as early as 2020.

Since its formation in 2009, Sledgehammer Games contributed to the development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in collaboration with Infinity Ward, and then it launched Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in 2014, which was its first game as lead developer. Call of Duty: WWII was the studio's biggest project yet, which Activision said has sold twice as many copies as Infinite Warfare.

With this kind of track record, it would seem that Sledgehammer Games can only keep going up. After reading his letter, fans can rest easy, knowing that the studio is in Aaron Halon's good hands. The letter's optimistic and excited tone assures fans that the best is yet to come for the Sledgehammer, but that the fans and community around Call of Duty will always be at the heart of the studio.

Sledgehammer Games' Call of Duty: WWII is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
