Since its release in 2011, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has been one of the most popular games to mod. One of the latest mods released for Skyrim switches the combat system to mimic Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Sekiro has a combat system that relies on timing, quick movements, and combos. Based in 16th century Japan, Sekiro features combat with a samurai blade, and many enemies carry unique weapons used in that era. Sekiro has rigorous gameplay, forcing players to think quickly and learn enemy tendencies. Much of the combat is focused on timed blocks and attacks. When modded for Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, these timed blocks and attacks will enable players to deflect enemy attacks, as well as pull off fast combos.

The Sekiro combat overhaul mod aims at making fights more fluid and gameplay more complex. Some of the major changes to the combat include stamina effects, deflecting attacks, and more difficult enemies. The combination of a deep combat system and fluid graphics makes the combat feel like actual strategic weapon fights. Also included in the mod is the visual effects of sparks and flashes that indicate blocks and deflects, which are key to Sekiro's gameplay. Additionally, the mod will scale enemies' ability to deflect based on the enemy level. This will make players strategize fights instead of attacking recklessly. This unique combat system has been widely successful and has been used in other popular titles as well.

The mod requires players to have the special edition of Skyrim, and will not work on the original edition. Since the mod is a combat overhaul, it needs permission to use another mod called Ultimate Combat, which is the framework mod for combat changes. Currently, the mod is said to be released, but is set to private and unavailable to download directly from Nexus Mods.

Both games have been very popular across multiple platforms. Skyrim has remained a popular game since its release in 2011. Since then, many mods have been introduced that may give players a new experience. The mods range from improving gameplay, changing combat, and some hilarious ones, like rendering dragons as a giant Thomas the Tank Engine.

Mods tend to come with issues, and most mods are tinkered with constantly to reduce glitches or crashes. The combat mod is most likely one of the most difficult to insert into Skyrim, but could potentially improve gameplay. Skyrim's mods continue to be very popular and many players enjoy the game with multiple mods set to fully customize their gameplay. Some players may enjoy the simplicity of Skyrim's original combat, but a mod can keep the game relevant and can be a fun experience to try.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
