Silent Hill is one of the most influential horror games of all time with many developers being inspired by the nightmarish visuals and stories tucked away in the small Maine town. However, the last known development update involving the series was the cancellation of Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills, otherwise known as PT.

Konami has overall been very quiet regarding the series getting any new games. Meanwhile, many Silent Hill fans have been waiting with patience for any kind of news regarding the series' future.

The only piece of Silent Hill news fans have gotten recently was the recent inclusion of Cheryl Mason and Pyramid Head as guest characters in the hit multiplayer horror title, Dead by Daylight. Cheryl has additionally received special costumes that transform her into Lisa Garland and Cybil Bennett from the original Silent Hill, but that could mean more than some think.

With this new crossover content, many Silent Hill fans believe that a new title in the series is on the way in some form, and the hopes of the fans are also uplifted by the new upcoming Silent Hill movie. This new title could take the form as a continuation of the main story or serve as some kind of reboot for new generations of horror fans.

Considering the state of Konami in recent years, it would be likely that if a new game were to be released, it wouldn't likely be made in house. Many outsider developers have expressed desires for making a Silent Hill game, and if Konami liked Behavior's treatment of the characters in Dead by Daylight, another studio might get the chance to add on to the series lore.

Another reason for Silent Hill to come back is the success of the recent Resident Evil remakes, which could easily result in a modern remake of the original Silent Hill games with updated graphics, controls, and game design. The fan demand for more of the series isn't something that Konami couldn't have noticed, so someone has likely seen the potential financial gains.

A new Silent Hill likely won't be announced in 2020, however, due to the large influx of other games being announced and being released in the later parts of this year. However, it has potential to have an announcement or another playable trailer in 2021 after the release of games such as Resident Evil 8: Village.

Of course, there is always the chance that the series could be dead as its own game series. While Konami may have representatives comfortable with allowing characters to appear in other properties and for movies to be made, the prospect of making another full game in the series might be completely abandoned outside of Pachinko machines. At that point, fans can only play the older games and play other horror games that were inspired by this influential behemoth.

No matter how anyone looks at the situation, Silent Hill is definitely overdue for a new title in the series. At this point, fans and onlookers can do nothing but hope for a new title to appear at some point in the near future.

A new Silent Hill game is speculated to be in development.
