Hello again, Ranters. Here we are, a third of the way through the increasingly chilly month of October, and the (potential) hits just keep coming.

It's a great time for players to catch up on some of last year's best games, as both the Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition and the Dragon Age: Origins -- Ultimate Edition become available this week. They pioneered the concept of military-themed first person shooters many years ago (to critical acclaim and robust sales), but now Electronic Arts finds itself battling the unstoppable Call of Duty for a slice of the market. Medal of Honor rides to retail this week on a wave of controversy caused by the inclusion of the Taliban as a playable class in the game's multiplayer. Though EA ultimately dropped the Taliban from multiplayer, the bad press caused by their initial inclusion may have a lingering effect on the game's fortunes. At least the timing of the game's release -- post Halo: Reach, pre Call of Duty: Black Ops -- seems just about perfect.

For those who'd rather play with words than guns, Warner Bros. Interactive has just the thing: Super Scribblenauts. Though the first Scribblenauts won a truckload of AIAS Awards, including Outstanding Achievement in Portable Game Design and Portable Game of the Year, many players felt the game didn't quite deliver on its promises. Super Scribblenauts addresses the shortcomings of the original by giving players direct control of Maxwell, and expanding his vocabulary to include adjectives. Now that Vampire can be a Blue Vampire! This one could be fun.

Ever wanted to be a luchadore? Well, now you can play as one in Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring. Konami's new wresting game allows for all kinds of player customization, and the developers seem to have a firm grasp on the material. Though it faces some strong competition from the upcoming WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2011, if I've learned anything in life, it's this: never bet against the luchadore, my friends. Never bet againt the luchadore.

As always, we want to hear from you. What games are you planning to pick up this week. Which upcoming games are you most looking forward to?
