Though we are only halfway through the month of May, this is the week that the first of 2011’s bumper crop of potentially huge Summer games comes to retail. That game, of course, is Rockstar’s LA Noire. Red Faction: Armageddon and inFamous 2 are primed to follow in the coming weeks, but this week belongs to Team Bondi’s love letter to the golden age of Hollywood.

Otherwise, it’s another week full of downloadable content. Electronic Arts will be releasing new DLC packs for both Crysis 2 and Shift 2 Unleashed. Bethesda has the recently revealed Honest Hearts DLC for Fallout: New Vegas. LA Noire is getting in on the action by offering a couple of DLC packs for players who pre-ordered the game, and SEGA Rally Online Arcade is on the way to Xbox Live Arcade.

But wait, there’s more! Take a look at the new releases for May 15 through 21, 2011, broken out by category and date.

Microsoft Xbox 360

Nintendo DS

  • Cake Mania: Main Street 5/17
  • Chess Attack 5/18

Nintendo 3DS

  • SpongeBob Squigglepants 3D 5/17

Nintendo Wii

PC

Sony PlayStation 3

To say that LA Noire is among the most anticipated titles in the first half of 2011 is something of an understatement. Ever since word of the game and its revolutionary Motionscan facial animation tech first spread, gamers have been captivated by the promise of yet another original Rockstar Games experience. A leaked review awarded the game a perfect score, but can LA Noire really live up to the mountains of hype? Stay tuned to Game Rant for the final word. LA Noire and its two DLC packs, The Naked City and A Slip of the Tongue, releases May 17, 2011, for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Though it may ultimately make the trip to consoles, this week sees the release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings as a PC only title. CD Project Red’s newest looks amazing in screenshots, and soon players will be able to experience the game in motion. Game Rant had the chance to interview The Witcher’s developers (part 1, part 2) at last year’s Eurogamer Expo, and their enthusiasm for the game was unmistakable. Did they achieve everything they hoped to? We’ll know soon. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings releases May 17, 2011, for the PC.

As always, we want to hear from you. What games do you plan to pick up this week? What upcoming titles are you most looking forward to?
