It’s not every week that a brand new game system is released, but that is exactly what happened this week. At long last, the Nintendo 3DS is available in North America. The system launched just yesterday, with a lineup of 16 games. As our Nintendo 3DS review makes clear, our feelings on the new system are rather mixed. Be sure to tell us what you think of Nintendo’s new handheld — whether you purchased one or not.

Just because 3DS was released this week doesn’t mean publishers are sleeping on the other platforms. Far from it, with a number of notable games headed to retail. For starters, Electronic Arts is bringing out two of its heavy hitters, as both Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters and Shift 2 Unleashed debut for a number of systems. Fans of hacking, slashing, and Chinese history can look forward to yet another entry in the long running Dynasty Warriors series. And don’t forget about the arrival of Arrival for Mass Effect 2.

Of course, there are many more games to choose from. Take a look at the new releases for March 27 through April 2, 2011, broken out by platform and date.

After disappointing sales of the 2011 edition, EA is regrouping a bit with the latest version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour. Rather than focus on its now controversial cover star, PGA Tour 12 is all about The Masters. But will the inclusion of the most important tournament in golf be enough to overcome the stigma associated with all things Tiger? And is the series as fresh and fun as it once was? Keep your eyes on Game Rant for the final word. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters comes to Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 March 29, 2011.

The first Need for Speed: Shift boasted a truly exciting visual style that demanded attention from racing fans. Unfortunately, the game itself didn’t quite measure up to the promise of its presentation. Now (sort of) spun off from the Need for Speed series, will Shift 2 Unleashed deliver the goods? More to the point, with Gran Turismo 5 in its rear-view mirror, and Forza Motorsport 4 up ahead — not to mention competition this very week from Activision’s NASCAR The Game 2011 — will Shift 2 be able to find a stretch of road to call its own? Shift 2: Unleashed releases March 29, 2011, for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

The final bit of downloadable content is just about to be released for Game Rant’s 2010 Game of the Year, Mass Effect 2. Will Arrival fully set the stage for the hotly anticipated Mass Effect 3? We’ll find out soon enough. Mass Effect 2: Arrival releases March 29, 2011, for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

As always, we want to hear from you. What games are you planning to pick up this week? What games on the horizon are you most looking forward to?
