Greetings, Ranters, and welcome to another edition of Game Rant's weekly new release list. It looks like January will be leaving with neither a bang nor a whimper, but with a horrific, blood curdling scream, thanks to Electronic Arts' Dead Space 2.
As we finish up the first month of 2011, the supply of fresh gaming experiences on offer continues to edge toward the meager end of the scale. Granted, this is a traditionally slow time of the year for new releases, but given that the last serious batch of games hit the market way back before Thanksgiving, and I think we can all agree that publishers need to step up the pace a bit.
Still, a few noteworthy titles are due to debut this week. Take a look at the new releases for January 23 through 29, 2011, broken out by platform and date.
Microsoft Xbox 360
- Rocks N' Rockets 1/24
- Paws & Claws Marine Rescue 1/25
- 1942 1/24
- Jam City Rollergirls 1/24
- Monday Night Combat 1/24
- Breach 1/25
- Dead Space 2 1/25
- Venetica 1/25
- Dungeon Fighter Online Act VII: Witching Hour 1/26
- World of Tanks 1/27
Sony PlayStation 3
- Lord of Arcana 1/25
Visceral Games' Dead Space 2 is poised to scare away all competitors this week. As a sequel to 2008's well received Dead Space, Dead Space 2 continues the story of Isaac Clarke's battle against the Necromorph menace. The new game is packing a multiplayer mode, and even a goofy/cool crossover with Dragon Age 2. Those who haven't made up their minds should give the game's demo a look. Players who are ready to face the horror head-on can pick up a copy of Dead Space 2 January 25, 2011, for Xbox 360, PS3, or PC.
Also on offer this week, SouthPeak Interactive's Two Worlds II brings fantasy role playing back to the gaming landscape. A number of trailers have been issued, showing off combat that recalls the Lord of the Rings films, in addition to the redesigned land of Antaloor. Will gamers eagerly awaiting Skyrim and Dragon Age 2 take to Two Worlds II? They can find out for themselves when Two Worlds II releases January 25, 2011, on the Xbox 360 and the PS3.
As always, we want to hear from you. Will you be picking up any of this week's new releases? What games on the horizon are you most looking forward to?
